Volunteers and officials who make motorsport possible in South Africa are being recognised this month as part of the FIA’s global Volunteers and Officials Month.
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motorsport (Cars and Karting), has dedicated October to acknowledging the invaluable role of volunteers and officials who give their time, passion and expertise at racing events across the world.
Motorsport South Africa (MSA), the National Sporting Authority for motorsport in South Africa, is proud to join this initiative and honour the many individuals who dedicate themselves to the safe and successful running of events across the country. These volunteers and officials serve in diverse capacities such as race directors, stewards, marshals and event organisation and administration.
Throughout October, MSA will highlight the stories and contributions of volunteers and officials who have gone above and beyond in their service to the sport.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said:
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our sport. Their passion, dedication and commitment is truly inspiring and allows motorsport events to take place across the world, bringing sporting joy and spectacle to millions of fans.
By declaring October as Volunteers and Officials Month, the FIA is expressing our sincere appreciation and commitment to all of our volunteers. I urge anyone interested in volunteering at a motorsport event to get involved and see how rewarding it is to play such a meaningful role at the races and events we all love to watch.”
MSA CEO Vic Maharaj added:
“Volunteers are the heartbeat of motorsport in South Africa. To our officials and volunteers, thank you for your continued commitment. Your passion and participation drive the sport forward, and we at MSA are deeply grateful for your dedication. Without you, there would be no racing, and no future for the sport we all love.”
With thousands of volunteers worldwide and hundreds locally, the FIA and MSA’s recognition of their contribution underscores the essential role they play in ensuring the sport continues to thrive.
