Youngtimer Classic Touring Cars join Zwartkops Festival
Fresh from their Inland Historic race meeting at Red Star Raceway last week, the new Ben Morgenrood Group Classic Youngtimer Touring cars are ready to strut their stuff again at the Zwartkops Regional Extreme Festival on Saturday 24 June 2023.
The Youngtimer Touring cars recall the golden era of South African tin top racing of the 1990’s when SATCAR and Group N provided the thrills and motor racing heroes of the day.
This growing class includes the Mosport Honda Ballades of Mike O’Sullivan and Brian Luyt, in the second race of his comeback and Rob Clark in his Containerforce version.
Jannie van Rooyen takes over driving duties in the VW Jetta from Andy Gossman, and Wimpie and Ryno Van Zyl share a Nissan Sentra. Sharing of cars is a Youngtimer feature of, to encourage affordability and the sharing of costs.
O’ Sullivan will be hoping for a better race this time out following some teething problems on his in his Honda Ballade at Red Star. There’s sure to be some close racing against old adversaries, van Rooyen in the Jetta and Luyt’s Ballade, with Clark and the van Zyls keeping them honest.
The Classic Youngtimer Touring cars will sharing the Zwartkops grid with the Superhatch category Saturday, where bight green Ben Morgenrood HRSA windscreen banners will differentiate the booted Classic Youngtimers from theit Superhatch rivals.
