Everest Wealth Ridgeway Yamaha Racing is on winning form as it heads to the harsh Northwest semi desert of Ganyesa near Vryburg for the third round of the South African Cross Country Motorcycle Championship on Saturday 16 August. Fresh off Yamaha’s first major win since its Cross Country return at the Leeuwpoort Gauteng GXCC round, two weeks ago, Maddy Malan will be targeting his maiden National victory in Vryburg.
“It took us a few races to find overall winning form at the last Gauteng round, but we really liked the taste of that and we head to Vryburg looking for more of the same,” Everest Wealth Ridgeway Racing team boss Harry Grobler smiled. “We also lead the 65 and 125cc schoolboy classes and are in a strong position in the 85, OR3, Seniors and Masters too, so here’s to much more of the same this weekend.”
Maddy Malan is the talk of the town after his GXCC win aboard his Everest Wealth Ridgeway Racing Yamaha YZ 450 FX. Maddy is also in a strong national championship position following a solid start and he’s all-in for the Vryburg win. Another Open class Yamaha to watch is Slade Smith and never ignore Hayden Louw, while Tyron Beverley will be out on the team’s OR3 Yamaha YZ 250 FX.
Everest Wealth Ridgeway Racing Yamaha is the team to beat in the Junior classes. High School ace Murray Smith leads the way in the 125 cc class, where teammate Drikus van der Merwe is another major factor. The Blu Cru’s youngest team member, Ryan Wichman leads the way in the 65 cc Junior, while Ruald Potgieter has also enjoyed a good run in 85 cc Seniors.
On the top side of the Everest Wealth Ridgeway Racing Yamaha age spectrum, Blu Cru man Gerhard Vorster and Shimwells Yamaha rider Marco Cocci are fighting for the Senior title, while Warrick van Schalkwyk will be chasing Masters honours. “I’d say we are ready to rock and roll in Vryburg,” Harry Grobler concludes. “Go give them hell guys!”
