Pabar VW Challenge all set to rock KZN’s Dezzi Raceway

The Pabar VW Challenge goes it alone as it heads to the KwaZulu Natal South Coast and the twisty, undulating and testing Dezzi Raceway for an exclusive Saturday of racing on 12 August. Class championship leaders Bevin Masters, Ethan Coetzee and Yotti Nousias and their rivals will have Dezzi all to themselves for qualifying and two 12-lap heats each for Classes A and C, and Class B through the day.

Four time winner Bevin Masters’ CPS Warehouse Polo 6R holds a tiny lead over champion Rory Atkinson, who may not have been the winningest driver in Class A with only one victory to his name so far in his BHIT Industrial Transport version so far this season. But his consistency has, so to say, killed the cat, as he finds himself in a tight spot between Bevin and his double winning brother Wayne’s similar Performance Master cars. Waldie Meintjes has also won and sits close enough to still pick up the pieces in fourth.

Behind them, Charl Smalberger has been a factor in the races he has run and could very well be that fly in the Dezzi Class A ointment, while Pabar capo Mike Barbaglia, Dean Ross’ Norbrake Distributors and Dewald Theron’s similar cars are also in the top class mix. Also keep an eye out for Mydi Mfana, Luigi Ferro, Chris Dale, Nicole Lombard, and Miguel Dias among the Class A frontrunners.

The monster Pabar VW Challenge Class B draws enough cars to race all on its own and will do so once again at Dezzi. Class leader Ethan Coetzee has taken advantage of his national CompCare Polo Cup experience to deliver a strong season and leads the way in his JRT Racing Polo. His biggest competition has come from reigning champion Hannes Scheepers’ Dainfern Dental Studio, and former C champion Pierluigi Muzzulini’s FSS International Polos.

Elna Croeser’s ATE Brakes car leads the Class B Battle of the Ladies over Charisse Piazza-Musso in her Hot 102.7 FM version and another Polo Cup racer, AF Fans lass Tyler Robinson. They regularly race among the guys including Jacques Hayes’ Platinum Wheels car, Ross Butt’s EeziParts Polo RAM Customs lad Bevan Williams Class Champion Ian Walker’s Mellow Veio Polo.

Stelio Nousias’ Fourbuy Wholesale entry, and another Polo Cup lad, Mohammed Karodia’s Fast 5 entry, the luckless Karshin Naidoo, Stuart Mack, Tinahe Ncube, Francois van Zyl, Elio Muzzulini and Mitch Coetzee are all Class B men to watch. And keep an eye out for new blood in the middle class, with Milan Emslie, Shiren Rajpaul, Adriaan and Martin de Beer, Josh Wilford, and Xander Human out to prove a point.

Overall championship and class leader Yotti Nousias has proven the Brat Pack Class C man to beat in his We Fix Cars Panel Beaters Vivo. Philip Croeser’s ATE Brakes car, Pabar man Charl Andersen and another luckless youngster, Bjorn Bertholdt’s Renergen Vivo are his biggest rivals. Also watch for Insurisk lads Michael and Dimitri Zapheriou and Kyle Petersen, Andy Gossman’s Goosmotorsport entry and rookies Tyron Pillay and Allan Pereira.

Pabar VW Challenge has the KZN South Coast Dezzi Raceway all to itself on Saturday. That is certainly still worth going to watch it all go down, all on its own…
