Can anyone stop Tait & Moore in Gqeberha?
The Volkswagen Rookie Cup returns home to Aldo Scribante, a stone’s throw away from VW Plant Kariega as the young guns join an Eastern Province Regional meeting on Saturday 9 August. A subtle trend has emerged between two of the young chargers but expect action all the way between the eight young men and woman.
“The 2025 Volkswagen Rookies have impressed way beyond their years at every turn so far this season,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe reiterates. “This weekend is a little different as we race away from the glare of the National Extreme Festival, but where our rookies will enjoy star status at an Aldo Scribante EP Regional weekend, so we look forward to see how they adapt to all that too.”
A trend has emerged over the past two meetings where rookie VW Challenge Brat Pack Class C champion Christopher Tait and Gqeberha karting prodigy and second year rookie Josh Moore have shared out the past four race wins. That’s seen them emerge a point apart in the chase and just three points clear of sophomore 2024 runner-up, Uzair Khan.
Durbanite Khan will be looking for a way back onto the top of the Aldo podium. The other winner so far this season, rookie former karter Mauro Da Luz is chasing a repeat of his first round debut victory. Behind them, oval graduate Giovanni Fiorotto and former karter Luke Hill are in their own private battle for fifth in the chase, while young racing lady Berlin Robinson will want to impress on Woman’s Day in her tussle, tied in seventh with racing newcomer Luke Corbett.
Volkswagen’s young guns race for the prize of an Astron Energy Polo Cup drive in 2026. A Volkswagen Motorsport initiative open to young racing drivers between 14 and 16 years of age, who hold a valid MSA licence, the Rookie Cup is designed to deliver a seamless transition for that all-important step up to main circuit motor racing.
Rookie Cup works as an academy of motor racing. It goes far beyond best racing lines, perfect brake markers and racecraft. Recruits are trained in every aspect of racing with an eye to a career on track. Young drivers interested in joining the Volkswagen Rookie Cup can email driving@vwsa.co.za with the subject line ‘Ref: VW Rookie Cup, and Volkswagen’s dedicated Rookie Cup team will be in touch.
