Pabar VW Challenge action resumes at Red Star

Pabar VW Challenge racing explodes back into action at the Red Star Raceway’s second round Regional Festival following what seems a lengthy Easter break. If the opening action was anything to go by, not only can Gauteng race fans look forward to a great spectacle, but there’s also a fair bit of vengeance on the table down Delmas way, Saturday 22 April.

It will be a case of catch those Masters brothers in Class A. Wayne’s Performance Master car and Bevin’s CPS Warehouse machine arrive as the cars to beat in the all-Polo 6R top class. Reigning champion Rory Atkinson will be having none of it in his BHIT Transport car however, but expect those three to entertain up front.

Behind them, Charl Smalberger is one to look out for as he substitutes for dad Derik in the Sabertek Polo. Waldie Meintjies, Mike Barbaglia’s Pabar car, Garrun Group racer Dewald Theron, Mydi Mfana’s MDS machine, Dean Ross’ Norbrake entry and PSA lass Nicole Lombard should be on the pace too. National SupaCup racer Miguel Dias is also one to watch, as he will be back in action in his PMD Performance Master Polo.

Likely to race on its own again to accommodate an ever impressive 20 car field, most of the Class B frontrunners have something to prove. Not least of all that they can still beat Stuart Mack’s upstart prototype Class X turbo one-litre three-cylinder Nathan’s Motorsport Polo slated to be the future of the ever-popular middle class.

Class B’s lady racers Elna Croeser’s ATE Brakes and Charisse Piazza Musso in her Hot 102.7 FM machine, Hannes Scheepers’ Dainfern Dental car and RAM lad Bevan Williams will all be keen to climb back onto the top step of the Class B podium. Jacques Hayes Platinum Wheels Polo and Francois van Zyl’s Jesus Saves Polo Vivo have also been up there before.

Watch for Class C champions Ian Walker’s Mellow Veio and PL Muzzulini’s FSS Polos, and three Polo Cup racers in Fast 5 lad Mo Karodia, Ethan Coetzee who races with dad Mitch in the JRT team, and AF Fans’ Challenge rookie lass Tyler Robinson. And don’t ignore Tinahe Ncube, Karshin Naidoo, Adriaan and Martin de Beer, Ross Butt, and Shiren Rajpaul.

There was huge drama in Class C last time out resulting in frontrunners Stelio Nousias and Zapheriou rookie Bjorn Berthold’s Renergen    entries racing under observation this weekend. They also have brother Yotti Nousias, ATE man Philip Croeser, Dino Smit’s rez.com car, Charl Andersen’s Pabar Polo and Insurisk brothers Michael and Dimitri Zapheriou to worry about.
