Tyler Robinson delivered an impressive performance on debut in the South African Touring Cars (SATC) SupaCup Championship, finishing fourth overall at the season-opening round held at the Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town.

The Team RED driver made the most of her three practice sessions on Friday, using the valuable track time to quickly adapt to the SupaCup machinery and the demands of the Western Cape circuit. Her preparation paid off on Saturday morning during qualifying, where Robinson produced an impressive lap to secure fifth place on the grid, only a few tenths shy of the pole position time.

Adding to the challenge of her debut weekend was a new procedural change introduced by championship organisers, who switched the race start format from the traditional rolling start to a standing start for the 2026 season. Fortunately, Robinson was well prepared for the change, having spent several seasons competing in the Polo Cup Championship, where standing starts are mandatory.

Drawing on that experience, Robinson executed a solid launch when the lights went out for Race 1. As expected in the tightly contested SupaCup field, the fight for positions was intense throughout the race. Remaining composed in the thick of the action, the young South African racer crossed the line in a strong fourth place to mark an excellent debut result.

Race 2 followed a similar pattern, with the closely matched field making overtaking opportunities difficult. Robinson again demonstrated maturity and consistency as she battled through the race to secure fifth place at the chequered flag, rounding off a highly encouraging first weekend in the championship.

“I’m really happy with how the weekend went,” said Robinson. “Making my SupaCup debut at Killarney was a big step, and to come away with fourth and a fifth place is very encouraging. A huge thank you to Team RED, my sponsors, and everyone who continues to support my journey. Their belief and backing make it possible for me to keep chasing my racing goals.”

Robinson’s debut performance marks another milestone in a career that has already included national Polo Cup competition and international karting opportunities. This season will also see Tyler taking on Germany’s best drivers when she competes in the German Polo Cup, which is in fact a left-hand drive SupaCup car.

The SATC SupaCup Championship now heads to Red Star Raceway in Mpumalanga for Round 2, scheduled for 17–18 April, where Robinson will be looking to build on the momentum of her strong opening weekend.
