The 2026 Astron Energy Polo Cup season heads to familiar territory for Christopher Tait this weekend as Zwartkops Raceway hosts Round 3 of the national championship.

The Volkswagen Motorsport South Africa rookie arrives at the Pretoria circuit carrying strong momentum after a victorious outing in the Volkswagen Challenge at Red Star Raceway this past weekend, where he secured the class victory against tough regional competition.

Having earned his Astron Energy Polo Cup opportunity after winning the Volkswagen Rookie Cup title in 2025, Christopher continues to show steady progression in South Africa’s premier one-make cup category. Consistent top-10 finishes during the opening two rounds have highlighted both his pace and growing confidence as he adapts to the competitive national championship environment.

Returning to a circuit he knows well could prove crucial this weekend, with Zwartkops traditionally rewarding drivers who are comfortable committing under braking and maximising momentum through the technical sections. While Christopher is targeting a breakthrough top-five finish, he is under no illusions about the challenge ahead, with mere tenths of a second often covering the top 10 drivers in qualifying.

“We know how competitive the Polo Cup field is, so the first objective is to make sure we dial the car in properly during Friday practice,” explained Christopher. “From there the focus shifts to qualifying and hopefully progressing into the Superpole shootout with a top-six time. If we can put ourselves in a strong starting position for the opening race on Saturday, then hopefully we can fight for the kind of result we know is possible.”

Track action at Zwartkops Raceway begins on Friday with practice and a late afternoon qualifying. Three races are scheduled for Saturday as Christopher continues his rookie Astron Energy Polo Cup campaign.
