An ideal Cape Town’s day delivers epic Max action
Cape Town smiled on the Western Cape karting community with perfect winter conditions to celebrate the fourth round of the Western Cape Rotax Max Regional karting challenge on Saturday. The locals responded with impressive fields and great racing and a fair bit of drama in wonderful sunny conditions.
With form man Jason Coetzee away racing at the East London National Extreme Festival, rival Sebastian Boyd took advantage with a double win to wrap up premier Rotax DD2 honours for the day. The hero was however a delighted Anwil April who took his maiden DD2 victory over Boyd in the final. Another up and coming young Cape DD2 star, Matthew Wadeley kept Joseph Oelz behind for the third, while Jared Jordan dominated DD2 Masters over Jonathan Pieterse, Nevile Chapman and Michael Jordan.
Unlike Coetzee, Charl Michael Visser opted to remain home and race his Rotax Senior Max rather than his SupaCup in East London. He made it worth his while by topping a competitive day with the overall win off a couple of thirds and a win in the final. Jozi visitor Amani Kinyua took race 2 en route to second over Luca Wehrli, Keagan Beaumont Matthew Carter and Jesse Swart after opening heat winner William Marshall was excluded from the second heat.
Sebastiano Human was once again imperious in high school Junior Max as he raced to yet another triple victory. He left Michael Danks to fend Aiden Beaumont off for second, while Andrew Retter continued to impress in fourth ahead of newcomers Justin Milleskie and Lulama Ngobeni.
Under-13 Rotax Mini Max delivered three different winners in the three heats as Max Boshoff took the opening race and then held on to take the day from second heat winner Liam Wharton, Ruhan Victor, Jayden van der Merwe, Jose Slamet and Logan Roehrig. That after Zac Boshoff bounced back from an opening race exclusion to take the final.
Logan Roehrig dominated proceedings with three under-11 Rotax Micro Max wins on day. Yaqeen Gamieldien, Jake Steyn and Radhi Harris fought it out for the second ahead of Slater Smith and Ebrahim Khalpey.
Divaaj Govender continued his Cape baby Bambino domination with another triple over Emelee Adriaans, Aleena Doutie and newcomer Vihaan Govender. Ashlyn Beaumont was next up from new name Muhluri Ngobeni and Yaseen Pilay to close off another fine day of Western Cape karting.
The WP returns to Killarney for round 6 on 9 August, a week before the Northern Regions Rotax karters return to action for their next round up at Zwartkops a week later and then the National Finals there at the end of August.
