Motorsport South Africa (MSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Rod Hering as Chairman of the MSA National Rally Championship (NRC) Working Group. Rod, who currently serves as Technical Consultant for the NRC, takes over the role with a clear vision to build on the solid foundations established by his predecessor and to further strengthen the profile of the National Rally Championship.

The existing Working Group members will remain under his leadership, continuing their valuable commitment and contribution to rallying in South Africa. A key focus for Rod will be consolidating the various regional rally championships, positioning them as the bedrock of the National Championship and fostering stronger rally communities across the regions.

In line with MSA’s commitment to developing future leaders within the sport, Adriaan Smith is being mentored to take over the Technical Consultant role. This will enable Rod to dedicate his efforts to the strategic growth and long-term direction of rallying, while also supporting initiatives aimed at attracting younger officials and competitors.

Rod brings a wealth of experience to the role, having started as a navigator in the early 1980s before founding Race Prep in the early 2000s. Under his guidance, the company prepared and managed competitors for Team Total and partnered with Sasol Oil in their national motorsport campaigns. Race Prep secured three National Class titles in the Rally Championship and a further three in the Bridgestone Production Car Series. Rod himself clinched the Northern Regions Championship in 2009, cementing his reputation as both a competitor and a leader in the sport.
