1 November 1964 – 25 July 2025
Today, we remember and honour the life of Tjaart “Mr Formula-M” Joubert, a mentor, leader, and a true pillar of South African motorsport.
From the early 90s, Tjaart became more than a friend to many of us. He was a guide, a supporter, and above all, a passionate force behind Formula M racing, which was his life’s calling.
He was soft spoken and kind hearted, yet when it came to protecting his club and its members, he stood with fiery resolve. He was always willing to lend his time, his knowledge, and his wisdom, especially to newcomers finding their way into motorsport.
Tjaart had a rare gift: he could see the spirit in people and celebrate it. Whether it was giving a driver a nickname like “Silent Hunter,” penning his legendary pre-race Facebook posts, or sharing technical advice with a newcomer, he made everyone feel part of something bigger.
He cared deeply about the next generation. To the kids, he was like a second dad, always encouraging, always present, always guiding with warmth. His presence made the paddock feel like home.
We will miss his words, his laughter, and his steady hand at the helm of Formula M. But his legacy will live on in every race, every lap, and every story he helped create.
Rest in peace, Tjaart.
Forever Mr Formula-M.
