National Extreme Festival set to thrill Gauteng race fans
The 2026 National Championship circuit motor racing Extreme Festival returns to the Red Star Raceway near Delmas, suitably close to Gauteng following a two year hiatus on Saturday 18 April. The twisty West Mpumalanga racetrack will play host to a feast of national racing in the South African Touring Cars and SupaCup, Astron Energy Polo Cup, Investchem MSA4, SunBet ZX10 Masters motorcycles and the Gazoo Toyota Cup.
There’s mysterious news in the South African Touring Cars. Two new cars and drivers join the fray at Red Star, with Keegan Campos back in his BMW. But the identity of the driver of the second car, a brand new Golf GTI, remains a secret. Campos and he must still first beat rookie debut 1-2 sensations KC Ensor-Smith’s Volkswagen Golf GTi and Jason Coetzee’s Toyota Corolla, Julian van der Watt’s Golf GTi, Andy Schofield’s second BMW, and of course reigning champion Michael van Rooyen’s Corolla.
Second season racer Jason Loosemore is the man to beat in SATC SupaCup, but rest assured that Astron Energy Polo Cup Champion and SupaCup rookie Rory Atkinson will be leading the charge to do just that in the all-Volkswagen SupaPolo class. Others capable of upsetting the leader include rising star Judd Bertholdt, lady racer Tyler Robinson, David Franco, and Niko Zafiris. And Nicholas Vostanis will be keen to turn his less than lucky, yet most impressive pace into results in Mpumalanga.
Speaking of the 2026 Astron Energy Polo Cup, Hannes Scheepers won both races off pole position last time out, so the target is on his back. Roshaan Goodman, Shiren Rajpaul and Pierluigi Muzzulini ran Hannes closest in the Cape, so watch for them again in Delmas. Charl Smalberger is pining for better luck and top rookie Mauro Da Luz chasing more freshman success. Double champion Wayne Masters got his campaign for an Astron Energy Polo Masters title hat trick off to a fine start in the Cape, but he too, must first deal with the likes of Derick Smalberger and John Kruger.
Mikel Bezuidenhout made himself the 2026 Investchem MSA4 man to beat with a Cape Town grand slam. Aqil Alibhai, Karabo Malemela, Shrien Naidoo, Renzo Ribeiro and rookies, Guido Bidoli and rising lady star Gianna Pascoal will be out to stop Mikel. Ian Schofield meantime starts as Formula Ford Kent class favourite with Nicholas van Weely and Alex Vos among those out to beat him.
Cape Town winners Damion Purificati and Jayson Lamb, Trevor Westman and Adriaan van Dalen, James Barson, Keith Agliotti, Hein McMahon, and the rest of the SunBet ZX10 motorcycle Masters always put on a thrilling show at Red Star. And GR 86 Rookie leader Kobus Reynecke, GR Yaris Dealer lad Devon Scott and GR Corolla Media man Nabil Abdool will be out to defend Gazoo Toyota Cup honour in the respective classes.
Situated conveniently close to Gauteng just off exit 485 on the N12 Freeway, Red Star not only promises epic National Extreme Festival action, but great facilities, catering and a festival atmosphere await to make it a day to remember at the races. See you at the Red Star Raceway, Saturday 18 April!
