A fine blend of national, regional and club racing heads to Delmas

The Red Star Raceway is gearing up for its next major attraction when the second round Regional Festival brings a fine blend of national, regional and club racing to what promises to be a fine autumn’s afternoon at Delmas on Saturday 22 April.

Back from their Easter break, the rolling thunder of the V8 Supercars should be the day’s highlight, but also expect top drawer action and thrills among monster fields in the VW Challenge and BMW races. The ZX10 Masters motorcycles and Formula Vee single seaters, will add variety, backed by ever entertaining 111 Sports and GT, and Superhatch races too.

Top of the pops, the magnificent Mobil1 V8 Supercars can be expected to deliver thunderous action as Jaguar XKR men, multiple champion Mackie Adlem and Franco di Matteo face up to Corvette couple Julian Fameliaris and Steve Herbst, Terry Wilford’s Ford Mustang, Thomas Reib in a Chevy Lumina Warren Lombard’ Ford Falcon, and the rest.

The Pabar VW Challenge explodes back into action, where Wayne and Bevin Masters, and champion Rory Atkinson are the Class A cars to beat. In Class B Stuart Mack has Elna Croeser, Charisse Piazza Musso, Hannes Scheepers and Bevan Williams on his case and its war between Stelio and Yotti Nousias and rookie Bjorn Bertholdt in Class C.

The BMW M Performance Parts Series is another huge field. Leon Loubser takes on Fabio Fedetto and William Einkamerer in Class A, its Lyle Ramsay versus Andreas Meier and Rob Gearing in Class B, and Hein van der Merwe, Oz Biagioni, and Troy Cochran in Class C. Manny Ribeiro, tackles Nick Fischer in D, and Dave Rehse takes Arri van Heerden on in Class E.

The SunBet ZX10 Masters motorcycles are likely to be the closest races of the day. Expect Graeme van Breda, Brain Bontekoning, Jayson Lamb, Ronald Slamet, Trevor Westman and David Enticott to star there. And Peter Hills is the man to beat in DOE Lubri Fuel Formula Vee, where Jaco Schriks, Kyle Watt, Trevor Hills and Theodore Vermaak plan to do just that.

Louis Cloete’s Beetle and Lenard Archer’s Civic GTs, and Class A men Lucas Bezuidenhout’s Lexus, Piet Potgieter’s Golf will fight for Car Care Clinic 111 wins. Wayne Lebotschy’s Golf, Michael Grobler’s Polo, and Josh and Charl Weyers Corsa fight for Class B, Seten Naidoo and Dhiren Ganasen’s Civics in Class C, and Rob Clark’s Ballade and Didi Matjila’s Polo in Class D.

Mark du Toit is back in Superhatch to take on Seten Naidoo and Dhiren Ganasen’s similar Civics, Quintus Viljoen’s Polo and Corsa man Francis Aldrich in Class A. And its Ishmael Baloyi and Jenny Henning‘s Civics up against George Aldrich in a Peugeot 206, Christiaan van Wyk’s Figo, and Andre de Lange’s Golf in Class B.

All in all, Red Star will bring a top quality autumn Regional Festival race program to Delmas, backed by live music and entertainment, stalls, and all the expected good food and refreshments on Saturday 22 April. Find Red Star just off exit 485 on the N12 freeway. Entry is R100 per person, under 12s get in for free.
