This weekend’s (10-11 May) third round of the 2024 DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants Championship, to be held at Red Star Raceway, will see Tjaden Tromp and Chloe Stuart back in competitive action.

Both drivers, who made their Formula Vee debut in 2024, have competed at the circuit previously, albeit in the Formula Monosposto series. They have also tested at the circuit in their current cars. For Stuart, this will be her third outing in the series, having shown good pace at both Zwartkops Raceway and the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Tromp will have his second shot, having missed the season after not yet being eligible to compete.

However, this time and after extensive testing, they will feel better prepared for the challenges awaiting.

“Each time we go onto the circuit, we feel better prepared for the next race.” Says Stuart. “While we realise that miracles will happen overnight, it does instil a feeling of confidence knowing that it is a circuit we were able to prepare for properly. The switch to Formula Vee happened so rapidly at the beginning of the year. One day, you are still prepared for one category; the next, you’re getting ready for a debut in another. Kyalami, of course, did not have any viable private testing opportunities available beforehand, so now we can definitely head into the weekend with a greater understanding of what to expect.”

“We are quietly confident.” Says Tromp. “the last month has really seen us put every bit of effort in after we were able to gauge where we are in the pecking order. We now know more about the journey that lies ahead. If I can compare it to something, it’s a bit like taking a road trip but with a GPS. No, the journey will not miraculously be quicker, but we now know where we will need to be at certain points.”

Saturday’s first race will be contested over eight laps and will start at 10:55, while the second 10-lap race is scheduled for 14:40. Spectator tickets will be available at the Red Star Raceway entrance gate. The full Extreme Festival race day programme will also be broadcast live via the Extreme Festival Facebook page and 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
