Girl power as Investchem shows MSA4 off at Kyalami

South Africa has a proud single seater racing history, from our own Formula 1 championship, through 33 South African Grands Prix, many of them world championship rounds, and the rest. The older generation will forget never six-time champions John Love, Dave Charlton, and Ian Scheckter. Never mind our own World Champion, Jody.

Roll on a few decades and South Africa has just unveiled its newest single seater championship, Investchem MSA4. Had they raced against the 1964 South African Grand Prix grid, the fastest of the Investchem MAS4 kids would have pipped Jim Clark’s Lotus 25 Climax V8 to pole position at East London last time out.

But this is 2025 and the brand new, state of the art Investchem MSA4s will be on show for all to see at the Kyalami Festival of Speed over the last weekend of August. While they will only be demonstrations, Festival visitors will be able to behold South Africa’s top lady racing talent flat out in action aboard the turbo Volkswagen 3-cylinder races.

Like mini Grand Prix cars, Investchem MSA4 races on slick tyres, the cars feature aerofoils front and rear, F1-inspired driver protection halos and safety cells. Built for South African budgets, MSA4 cars have robust spaceframe chassis built by the same people who design Dakar cars.

The Festival Investchem MSA4 Demos will also highlight that girls are just as competitive as guys when Simphiwe Mohlahlo and Anastasia Gerasis do their bit to also promote women in motorsport. Simphiwe (27) will be out in her Investchem Chemical Logistics MSA4, with 17-year old Anastasia in her Apex Cordset Technologies machine.

Beyond the Festival and Woman’s Month, Simphiwe and Anastasia will be back racing alongside log leader KC Ensor-Smith and the rest of the lads at Killarney in Cape Town Saturday 13 September. They include Mikel Bezuidenhout, Shrien Naidoo and Liam Polome, and veterans, Nicholas van Weely and Alex Vos, Jorden Moodley, Kian Spies, and the rest,
