Luke Hill enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2026 Volkswagen Rookie Cup season at Killarney Raceway this past weekend, delivering a pair of impressive drives to open the championship in style.
In Race 1, Hill crossed the finish line in second place following a closely contested battle at the front of the field. Post-race investigations revealed that the original race winner had jumped the start, resulting in a penalty and promoting Hill to victory, securing his first win of the season.
Hill lined up second on the grid for Race 2 and wasted no time asserting himself in the fight for the lead. In a confident move around the outside of the pole sitter through Turn 1, he seized the lead on the opening lap. From there, Hill produced a composed and disciplined drive, withstanding sustained pressure from the chasing pack to claim another hard-earned race win.
The strong performances mark an ideal start to the season and place Hill firmly among the early contenders in the championship.
Reflecting on the weekend, Hill said:
“It’s an amazing way to start the season. The team gave me a fantastic car all weekend and I’m really happy with how everything came together. Race 2 was especially intense with a lot of pressure from behind, but I focused on staying consistent and hitting my marks. A big thank you to everyone who supports me and makes this possible.”
Hill also extended his appreciation to the partners and sponsors who continue to support his racing journey:
Volkswagen Motorsport South Africa, Astron Energy, Ferodo Racing, Dunlop Tyres, MyGlassSA, Sparco South Africa and Steelform.
The championship now moves on to the next round as Hill looks to build on a strong opening weekend.
