Challenge packed and ready for annual coastal trip
The ATE VW Challenge is locked and loaded for its annual jaunt to the sea as drivers prepare to tackle Gauteng Northern Regions Extreme Festival’s away weekend at the Aldo Scribante Raceway in Gqeberha on Saturday 8 August. If the action through the first half of the season is anything to go by, Eastern Cape race fans certainly have something special to look forward to this weekend.
With three winners in four races, consistency certainly has killed the cat for Anthony Lessing and his Raless Polo 6R. The silent assassin may only have won the most recent race, but his regular results at or near the front see him head to Gqeberha in the championship lead over rookie rivals, double winner Josh Moore’s Worx BPW Puma and three time winner Chris Tait’s King Price Extreme cars.
Also watch Class B graduates, champion Stuart Mack’s AutoZone car and Francis Aldrich ready to make a mark. Speaking of Class B, this year’s leaders, Keyaan Dwomoh and Applied Heat lad Sebastian Bouilliart probably won’t miss fellow rookie and third man Keegan Nathan sitting this one out as he recovers from another sporting injury. But never ignore Northern Bolt & Tool lad Jonathan Konig, rookie Max Corbett’s Century entry and Class C champion Martin de Beer.
Talking about Class C, it’s close as ever there too. Sustech Vivo man Bryce Pillay’s fraught battle with Northern Bolt lad Stuart Konig sees them split by just three points headed to Gqeberha. There’s no wriggle room for either of them either, with Dimitri Zapheriou and Andy Gossman’s Cardoc Vivos also ready to pounce.
Always entertaining, tight and twisty Aldo Scribante is sure to add a spice to an already spectacular show and something fresh and exciting for Eastern Cape race fans. See you at the races!
