Arnold Neveling brought home two podium results in the third round of the 2023 Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup held at Zwartkops Raceway this past weekend (19-29 May) at Zwartkops Raceway.

Building on his excellent return to the series in Round 2, Neveling showed front-running pace throughout Friday’s practice sessions and placed his GOSCOR Lift Truck Company Volkswagen Polo SupaCup on the front row in Saturday’s qualifying session, just 0.2 seconds shy of multiple GTC SupaCup Champion Brad Liebenberg.

The short and narrow layout of the Zwartkops Raceway circuit makes passing difficult. After Neveling lost a place to Jonathan Mogotsi through the opening series of corners, he remained in close contention behind him. This order stayed with Neveling crossing the line in third place.

In Race 2, Neveling got the better of Mogotsi on the opening lap, with the order remaining unchanged up front. Crucially, Neveling built a slightly more significant time margin over Mogotsi than the latter’s advantage in Race 1. This came despite a mid-race Safety Car period that neutralised an advantage. Not only did Neveling cross the line as runner-up behind Liebenberg, but he also did enough to secure second place in the day’s overall standings, determined on accumulated race times and used for the promoter’s prize-giving ceremony but not reflected on the points payout.

“So far, so good in 2023 for us, and we are getting closer to the front,” said Neveling. “Undoubtedly, we find ourselves in a much stronger position compared to a year ago, and the Stradale Motorsport team deserves a sincere thank you for the hard work that they have put into it. We have given GOSCOR (Lift Truck Company) a commitment that we would raise our game this year. While we still have a bit of a margin to eradicate, the progress has been good, and we are on track to challenge for victories soon. Consistent points finishes are welcome, considering we missed the opening round.”

The mid-season fourth round of the 2023 GTC SupaCup Championship will take place at Aldo Scribante Racetrack on 16-17 June.
