Winners galore as Gauteng Rotax karting thrills at the Vaal

No one driver managed to dominate when Rotax Max karting’s Northern Regions championship entertained with super close racing at Vereeniging on Saturday. Of the six classes, three of them delivered triple winners on the day, while the rest of the honours were also shared.

A monster 20-kart 22 kW Rotax Senior Max grid topped proceedings as Spice Mailula won the second and third heats to take the day from opening heat winner Muhammad Wally. Jonna Wilson took a podium en route to third for the day from the consistent Kian Spies, Caleb Moss, Georgia Lenaerts, Anele Nzimande and Daniel Labuschagne.

17 kW high school Rotax Junior Max was one of the classes to see three race winners on a dramatic day after race 1 winner Declan Jurgens was excluded from race 2. That left final heat winner Keenan du Plessis to take the day from Renaldo Koen, Munsanje Mukosa, second heat winner Brodi Dowling, Cristian Verheul, Kiyaan Reddi, Ruvan Maritz, and Rafael de Sousa.

Ten Kilowatt under-13 Rotax Mini Max similarly delivered triple winners as third and second heat winners, Luhan de Wet and Christian Naidoo ended up tied on points for the day ahead of Luke du Toit, Adriaan Steyn, Parker van der Molen and Joe Buckham. Opening race winner Diego Antune’s day fell apart from there en route to seventh overall.

Three different drivers also won the three 6 kilowatt under-11 Rotax Micro Max races, Alonzo de Oliveira hit back with a final heat victory to take the day from opening heat winner Radhi Harris and middle heat victor Jurgens Jordan. Mozambican Teresa Bettencourt ended fourth from Zwothe Magoda and Che Makhubele.

And not least of all, Tiyani Malabie took two nursery school of karting 2 kilowatt race wins to Siyanda Nkwanyana’s one, to take the Bambino day. William Grant followed in third from Yerhu Malabie, Tiane Resende, Tyler Stanyer, Handré Kukkuk and Jaxon Holzapfel.

The Northern Regions 2026 Rotax Max championship continues to its penultimate round at Zwartkops on 3 October, but not before a Western Cape round at Killarney this Saturday 8 August and the National final also at Zwartkops 28-29 August.
