Motorsport South Africa joins the entire motorsport community in mourning the passing of Andre de Kock, affectionately known to so many as “Scribe.”

For decades, Andre was far more than a journalist. He was a familiar face at circuits across the country, a trusted voice in the media, and a passionate supporter of South African motorsport. Through his reporting for The Citizen and countless hours spent documenting the sport, he captured its history, celebrated its people and shared its stories with dedication and integrity.

Andre’s commitment to motorsport was recognised by Motorsport South Africa with a Special Award in 1998, followed by the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. These honours reflected not only his outstanding contribution to motorsport journalism, but also the respect and admiration he earned throughout the motorsport community.

His passing leaves a space that cannot be filled. Andre touched the lives of generations of competitors, officials, organisers and fellow members of the media. His kindness, wisdom and genuine love for the sport will be remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our deepest condolences are extended to Andre’s family, friends, colleagues and all who are grieving this tremendous loss. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

A memorial service celebrating Andre’s life will be held at Zwartkops Raceway. The date and time will be confirmed, and further details will be shared as soon as they become available.

Thank you, Andre, for everything you gave to South African motorsport. Your words, your friendship and your legacy will remain part of our sport for many years to come.
