Motorsport South Africa’s annual National Awards returned to Emperors Palace on Sunday evening, filling the Senate Room with champions, long-time contributors, families, and supporters who came together to celebrate another remarkable year in the sport. This year’s event carried special significance as MSA proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary, highlighted by a commemorative video and reflections on the organisation.
The evening was steered by MC Derek Alberts, whose confident, engaging style kept the programme flowing smoothly and added a warm, personal touch to the celebration.
Celebrating our national champions and Protea Colours recipients
The ceremony opened with the presentation of Junior and Senior Protea Colours, recognising competitors who excelled internationally and continentally during the 2025 season. Pride filled the room as competitors received their blazers from SASCOC President Barry Hendricks, each one acknowledged for carrying the South African flag with distinction.
Recognising excellence across two and four wheels
The programme then moved into the national championship awards.
The two-wheel categories led the way, with champions from Motocross, Enduro, Hard Enduro, and Cross-Country Motorcycles honoured first. After dinner, the four-wheel categories stepped into the spotlight, celebrating the achievements of competitors in Karting, Rally, Rally-Raid, Single Seaters, and Saloon Cars.
Each award highlighted the dedication, teamwork, and commitment required to compete at national level.
Honouring the heart of the sport – officials, volunteers, and special award recipients
The ceremony also recognised the people who keep motorsport running behind the scenes. Awards for Photographer of the Year, Official of the Year, the Environmental Award, and the Special Awards.
A meaningful tribute to long-serving MSA staff
One of the most heartfelt moments of the evening came when MSA CEO Vic Maharaj honoured Adrian Scholtz and Dorothy Tshabalala, both of whom have dedicated more than thirty years each to the organisation. Their combined decades of service stretch back to the AA Motorsport era and have impacted countless competitors, organisers, and officials over the years.
Closing a memorable evening
The ceremony concluded with the Honorary Lifetime Award before guests moved on to dessert and coffee.
