Jonathan delivers another East London SupaCup double

Volkswagen Motorsport bounced back from a week to forget as Jonathan Mogotsi scored a memorable double victory at the iconic East London Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday. Volkswagen Motorsport SATC SupaCup teammate Jason Loosemore enjoyed another positive weekend, while team Rookie Judd Bertholdt showed great resolve to deliver a great third place in an Astron Energy Polo Cup race he at a point thought he’d miss completely!

“We arrived in East London to news that we’d been excluded from the previous round on a fuel issue on both our SupaCup cars,“ Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe pointed out. “So Jonathan Mogotsi and Jason Loosemore lost a double win and a third, and we had something to prove in East London. So I’m happy to report that Jonathan delivered a great double victory with Jason a competitive fourth. Untroubled, our rookie Judd Bertholdt put on another performance beyond his years in Astron Energy Polo Cup.”

“I arrived in East London on the back foot and hugely disappointed that we’d lost that Zwartkops double victory, so it was a truly great feeling to come away with our second double victory at the Grand Prix Circuit in as many years,” Jonathan Mogotsi admitted. “Special thanks and well done to the team to give me a car that still proved unbeatable no matter what those fuel tests said last time. My Genuine Parts SupaCup truly was on rails this weekend.”

SupaCup rookie and reigning Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Jason Loosemore was satisfied with a positive SupaCup outing as he once again played a part in Mogotsi’s success this weekend. “The opening race was a tough one, but I managed to get into second at the start of heat 2 and that gave Jonathan the chance to break away before I slipped back to take third. So onwards and upward from here, thanks to the team for a truly proper Astron Energy SuperPolo this weekend!”
Volkswagen Motorsport Rookie Cup champion Judd Bertholdt delivered a brilliant performance in spite of a scare that had him thinking he’d not even compete in the only Astron Energy Polo Cup race of the day: “I somehow tangled with by brother Bjorn at the start and next thing I knew I was sat knee deep in the dam of rainwater just past the startline,” Judd explained. “Luckily, they red-flagged the race, dragged me out and I was able to restart and hold off a gang of rivals to score another podium third. Thanks for everything, Volkswagen Motorsport!”

“Well done to our entire Volkswagen Motorsport team for coming together as always to shake a most disappointing decision and week off with Jonathan’s compelling double race victory, in East London on Saturday” Mike Rowe concluded. “We are still in with a championship chance, so let’s see if we can win the final four races of the SupaCup season to maximise that albeit narrow opportunity!”
