Simphiwe Mohlahlo, a 27-year-old racer from Johannesburg, is a rising name in the world of MSA4 and Formula Libre. Her journey into motorsport is one of curiosity, determination, and powerful support.

It all began on 20 May 2023, when she attended a race at Zwartkops Raceway. While watching the Investchem Formula 1600 category, she noticed drivers of colour Karabo and Siya competing, something that immediately resonated with her. Their presence gave her the confidence to ask questions and learn more about the sport. That pivotal encounter led to an invitation to test a Formula 1600 car on 27 November 2023. Simphiwe and her mother made the trip back to Zwartkops, where she experienced driving a race car for the first time and from that moment on, she was hooked.

With encouragement from the Investchem team and the unwavering support of her mother, she took the necessary steps to begin racing. She made her karting debut as part of the Walkers Racing Academy team on 16 May 2024, and by 18 June 2024, she was already being fitted for her seat in Formula 1600. Her mother worked closely with Investchem to structure a sponsorship agreement, laying the foundation for Simphiwe’s competitive debut.

Simphiwe’s passion for racing is driven by the constant challenge it presents. “There’s always a new goal to reach,” she says. “Every single day brings something new to learn and improving every step of the way is what keeps me going.”

One of her standout moments so far has been winning her first Formula Libre race an achievement made more special as she competed alongside some of the sport’s most respected names. “To know I gave it my all and came out on top was a really great moment for me,” she reflects.

When it comes to inspiration, Simphiwe doesn’t hesitate: her mother is her hero, her biggest supporter, and the person who has helped make her motorsport dream a reality.

Her advice to newcomers in the sport? “If your gut feeling tells you this is where you are supposed to be, lock in and put in the work it will always pay off.”

Before every race, Simphiwe walks through the track layout, reviews safety procedures, and then takes a quiet moment to pray while seated in the car, a grounding ritual that prepares her for the race ahead.
