Position: Karting Chairman (Voluntary Position)

Reports to: KMG, MSA Management Committee (ManCom) and MSA Board Members
Position Overview:
Motorsport South Africa (MSA) is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to assume the voluntary role of the Karting Chairman for the Karting Management Group (KMG). The Karting Chairman will provide leadership and strategic direction to the governance and development of karting in South Africa. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the effective regulation, promotion, and growth of karting, while fostering a strong, sustainable relationship with stakeholders, drivers, clubs, and partners.
The Karting Chairman will work closely with the KMG, MSA ManCom, other karting officials, and relevant stakeholders to ensure the alignment of karting initiatives with the goals of MSA. The Chairman must/should attend National karting races events as part of their duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategic Direction:
- Lead the Karting Management Group (KMG) in formulating and executing strategic objectives aimed at growing and developing karting in South Africa.
- Provide guidance and leadership to MSA on karting matters, ensuring that decisions align with the broader objectives of motorsport within the country.
- Ensure that karting policies, procedures, and regulations are continually updated to reflect international standards, trends, and best practices.
- Governance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of karting regulations, including competition rules, technical specifications, and safety standards.
- Stakeholder Management & Collaboration:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key karting stakeholders, including sponsors, organisers, promoters, partners, and media, to enhance the visibility and support for karting in South Africa.
- Event Attendance:
- Attend karting championships events across South Africa to observe and identify areas for improvement and development.
- Meeting with officials and competitors and other stakeholders to build relationships and foster collaboration.
- Development of Karting Talent:
- Advocate for grassroots karting initiatives, focusing on talent identification, development, and providing pathways for young drivers to progress into higher levels of motorsport.
- Work with karting clubs and schools to promote youth participation and development within the sport.
- Encourage inclusivity and diversity in karting, ensuring all participants have access to the sport
- Financial and Resource Management:
- Oversee the budgeting for karting-related initiatives and events within MSA’s financial framework, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
- Assist in the identification and procurement of sponsorships, funding, and grants to support karting activities and events.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Actively identify areas for improvement in the karting community and recommend changes or innovations to improve the competitiveness, accessibility, and safety of the sport.
- Monitor the effectiveness of existing programs and initiatives, making adjustments as necessary to ensure their continued success.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience:
- Experience in karting with a strong understanding of karting regulations, event management, and the technical/safety aspects of the sport.
- Proven leadership experience, ideally within motorsport organisations or other sports management roles.
- Prior involvement with MSA, karting bodies, or similar organisations is an advantage.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership abilities and a passion for the development of motorsport, especially karting.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage conflicts and resolve issues quickly and fairly.
- Knowledge of the motorsport industry, particularly karting technologies, competition formats, and safety regulations.
- Personal Attributes:
- A deep passion for karting and motorsport in general, with a desire to drive the growth and development of the sport in South Africa.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other motorsport professionals, officials, and organisations.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
Other Key Information:
- Voluntary Position: This is a voluntary position, and the Karting Chairman will not receive financial compensation. The KMG will cover attendance costs for race events.
- Individuals currently involved in karting as an importer are not eligible for this role.
