Mokoena steps up to German ADAC GT Masters
It’s a huge week for Kwanda Mokoena as the South African Endurance Racing champion prepares to make his German ADAC GT Masters championship debut at the Hockenheimring 10-11 June. Mokoena has joined Engstler Racing to race the Masters season alongside fellow series debutant Dylan Yip in a Audi R8 GT3 LMS.
“This will be the biggest weekend of my life so far!” Kwanda admitted as he prepared to jet out to Germany for his overseas racing debut. “But I just cannot wait! I’m faced with a t’s a huge learning year in my rookie season in a GT3 car, and we will also race on a new track for us every weekend.
“The flipside is that I drove a similar machine to win my South African title last year, so the plan is to arrive prepared and to learn as much as possible as soon as we can in an effort to be sure to bring the car home every race. Dylan and I have a great team behind us, so we will not hesitate to lean on our DTM our teammate Luca Engstler and our mentor, DTM legend Manuel Reuter whenever we need to.
“We may be learning fast, but Dylan and my plan is to get into the top ten, or better as often as we can as we build up our campaign to chase the ADAC GT Masters Rookie title. I am confident, I have a fast codriver and a great team behind me. I had a great season last year and I already know the Audi R8 GT3 LMS well. “I can’t wait, let’s race!”
Each ADAC GT Masters weekend comprises a pair of one-hour races. The drivers swap first and second stints on the Saturday and Sunday. Kwanda’s rookie campaign starts at the Hockenheimring Festival of Dreams this weekend.
