Will anyone stop Troy, Jason at Killarney’s Formula 1600 round?

Judging by their away pace at Kyalami last time out, their Gauteng rivals will be more than wary about Cape Town youngsters Troy Dolinschek and Jason Coetzee in the lead up to the Saturday 18 March second round 2023 Investchem Formula 1600 races at Killarney.

The home boys will be hard to beat at Killarney, but that does not mean they cannot be beaten. It’s been done before, and while Dolinschek was imperious at Kyalami, a small race 1 preparation issue prevented him from trotting off to a grand slam aboard his Sujean Investchem Mygale. Dolinschek, Coetzee’s Mint Wraps Fuchs Mygale and ever-improving third Cape lad Storm Lanfear’s AMD Mygale however remain the ones to beat at home.

Troy’s race 1 issues allowed Gerard Geldenhuys to take the Kyalami advantage, and the championship lead aboard his Abacus Divisions car among the all-Mygale grid. He won’t care a damn about local folklore down in the Cape. He’s charged up and ready to win no matter who he is racing, or where. Same goes for Investchem charger Siya Mankonkwana, who heads south after plausibly his best performance to date at Kyalami.

They say that there’s no replacement for displacement. Or experience. So with no leeway on Formula 1600’s engine size, it’s the latter capacity that the series’ two elder statesmen will rely on down in the Cape. Nicholas van Weely’s Magnificent Paints & Hardware machine and Fly Safair Investchem pilot Andrew Schofield starred at Kyalami. Both are ready to do even better at Killarney.

Investchem Formula 1600 will once again be accompanied by the stalwart Formula Ford Kents on track at Killarney. That’s where Graham Hepburn and his Qualipak Van Diemen and Duncan Vos’ Swift will be chasing repeat victories. Mr. Investchem Ian Schofield’s Mygale, and henchmen Allen Meyer in a Van Diemen and Rick Morris’ Mygale, and Ronald Van Weely in a Magnificent Paints & Hardware Van Diemen will be out to prevent precisely that.

The Investchem Formula 1600 action goes down at the 18 March National Extreme Festival powered by the City of Cape Town. See you at Killarney!
