A total loss as competitive TreasuryONE Hilux burns out

The Century Racing Outeniqua 400 had gone pretty well until then for Hennie de Klerk and Carl Swanepoel and the TreasuryONE Hilux. After qualifying quickest in their SA T1 class and sitting tenth overall and second in class overnight, the team was cruising home after stopping to help Saood Variawa and Charan Moore turn their factory Hilux back onto its wheels, when disaster struck late on day 2.

“We were cruising home to the finish when we noticed the smoke, and then the flames” Hennie explains. “We stopped immediately, but the fire was already out of control and despite our best efforts, all we could do was stand and watch as the TreasuryONE Hilux burned to the ground. We believe that the fuel line burst, which unfortunately set the car alight. The TreasuryONE Hilux is sadly a total loss.”

While it challenged Hennie and the team at times, the TreasuryONE Hilux also did them proud in its four year reign since 2013. Hennie won on debut in the Northern Stella 300 and enjoyed a competitive season as he prepared for Dakar 2024, where he and Juan Mohr retired in the tough Marathon stage. Hennie sat much of 2024 out due to a hand injury before a frustrating 2025. The team enjoyed a positive 2026 until Saturday’s incident.
