Tate Bishop’s second Global Touring Cars (GTC) SupaCup outing will see him challenge the 2023 grid at his home circuit of Killarney International Raceway on 17-18 March where the ANGRi Racing teenager is confident of a strong performance.

Making his debut at the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit during Round 1, the Capetonian claimed a third place in Race 1 and an impressive comeback-from-behind fifth after an incident saw him briefly stranded in the gravel-trap. Heading into Round 2, the multiple South African karting champion and Polo SupaCup rookie occupies fourth place on the points table, only two points adrift of third.

In 2022’s CompCare Polo Cup, teenager Bishop already recorded a maiden victory at the circuit, and is hopeful that his first GTC SupaCup win will also come in front of his home fans.

“I really want to record my first win in front of my home fans,” says Bishop. “I think that’s really the dream for any race driver, winning at home and even better if you can share your first victory with those who supported you on your way up. It is not just for me either, ANGRi Racing, our brand partners, and our ANGRi Racing Kart Academy have a massive footprint in Cape Town. What better way to repay all their support through the years than by having them join us in the celebrations?”

Bishop knows that while this will be an ideal way to finish the weekend, it will not be an easy accomplishment. “Let’s be honest, this year’s GTC SupaCup is a tough contest. We have some of the best drivers in South Africa on the grid, so we know it will not be a proverbial backyard stroll. However, we have put a lot of work into this weekend and are ready for what Killarney brings.”

Saturday’s races will form part of the Extreme Festival tour and will start at 12:30 and 15:55. Spectators can purchase tickets in advance via Computicket or at the Killarney International Raceway entrance gate on Saturday. Saturday’s race programme will be broadcasted on the official Extreme Festival social media channels.
