Keegan Campos leads GTC SupaCup title race to Cape Town

The all-Volkswagen Polo GTC SupaCup is set to thrill Cape Town as it heads to Killarney Raceway for round 2 on Saturday, 18 March. It was all about Keegan Campos at the opening round at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit two weeks ago, but Volkswagen Motorsport driver Jonathan Mogotsi is among the several drivers out for revenge.

Campos opened his GTC SupaCup season in perfect style when he claimed pole position and double wins aboard his Carello Auto SupaPolo at Kyalami. Mogotsi will be out to avenge that double defeat at one of his favourite circuits. Both of them will however have more than enough to think about from Brad Liebenberg, who is keen to put a miserable opening round behind him in his Hype Energy Drinks car. Arnold Neveling meanwhile makes a welcome return in his Goscor Stradale SupaCup.

Dominic Dias and his Chemi Liquid Energy machine and Tato Carello in his Carello Auto SupaPolo both impressed at Kyalami. Cape Town eyes will however be on home hero rookie Tate Bishop and his Angri Racing SupaPolo. Arguably the driver of the day on his GTC SupaCup debut last time out, Tate knows how to win at Killarney and he is the definite dark horse this coming weekend. Others to look out for include Calvin Dias’ second Chemi Liquid Energy car, while Platinum Wheels man JP dan der Walt will want to exorcise his Kyalami ghosts.

The GTC SupaCup Masters’ fight should be between another Cape Town home favourite, Danie van Niekerk, who will be back in action after missing the opening round. Danie is fully intent to make good on his previous home outing when he wrecked his SupaCup. Danie graduates to the Masters class this year against teammate, Scotsman Paul Luti, who is also due to make his first GTC SupaCup outing of the year at Killarney.

GTC SupaCup races alongside the Global Touring Cars as part of a full National Extreme Festival programme powered by the City of Cape Town at Killarney this coming Saturday. Tickets are available at Computicket, or at the gate.
