Alberton has a motorsport talent you will want to keep an eye on: Hunter Dreyer. This Saturday, you have the chance to see exactly why.

Come and meet the 18-year-old racer in person at the Vereeniging Kart Raceway for the first round of the Short Circuit GP.

Hunter’s passion for racing ignited when he was just four years old. After seeing a short circuit race, he was so taken with the Pocket Bikes that he begged his father to let him have a go. That was the start of a journey fueled by a love for anything with wheels.

While he is the first in his family to pursue a competitive motorsport career, his father and uncle, who had a brief racing stint themselves, are now his dedicated pit crew.

On The Track

Today, Hunter is a versatile competitor, racing on both short and long circuits.

  • On his Husqvarna 450, he is focused on the MSA Short Circuit GP championship.
  • On his Yamaha R6, he competes in the MRSSA championship for longer tracks.

The path is not always easy. Hunter admits that overcoming the challenges of his height and weight to keep pace with the top racers has been a real test of his fighting spirit.

The Rider Behind the Visor

On race day, Hunter has his rituals: a fresh haircut and the motivating lyrics of 50 Cent’s “I am the man.” When he is not on the track, you will find him at the gym, at car meets, or spending time with family and friends.

He describes his own racing style as:

    “Controlled, Smooth, Clean.”

He looks up to motorsport heroes like AJ Venter, KJ Mononyane, and Brad Binder, admiring their dedication and love for the sport. He offers the same positive outlook in his advice to young, aspiring racers:

“Just do it. You will never regret it. The people you meet and the lifelong friends you make will make your life so much richer.”

The Team Behind the Rider

Hunter’s journey is powered by a strong support system. He gives a huge thank you to his biggest sponsor, Wink Promotions, to Lekka Racing for their expert bike preparation and training, and of course, to his dad and uncle for being “the best pit crew in the world.”
