Round 7 of the INVESTCHEM Formula 1600 will take place at the Killarney International Raceway this weekend as part of the National Extreme Festival’s second visit to the Western Cape after a long hiatus. MTN Cosmo-Net-sponsored newcomer Mikel Bezuidenhout, who recently participated in the FIA OK-N World Cup karting event in the UK, will be getting behind the wheel of his Mygale single-seater for the penultimate round of the championship.

While the teenager from Johannesburg finds himself in the bottom half of the championship table, his season has been improving with some strong performances. Now a regular points scorer, Bezuidenhout has recorded two top-five finishes already and will aim to improve on that this weekend. Having navigated the twists and turns of the Cape circuit already this season, Mikel is confident he can record his best result yet.

“Now that I’ve been around the circuit, I am more confident heading into the weekend. It by no means makes it any easier as the field is talented, with very little separating the top six or seven drivers. Unlike those who are challenging for the title, I have no pressure on me and can calmly go about my business. But I feel good about this weekend and the result,” commented Mikel.

Saturday’s race programme will commence at 10:20. Spectator tickets can be purchased beforehand via Webtickets (https://tinyurl.com/mtaua8es) or at the Killarney International Raceway entrance on Saturday. The full race day programme will also be broadcast live on the Extreme Festival website (https://extremefestival.co.za/live/).

Round 7 of the National Extreme Festival is proudly hosted by the Western Province Motor Club (https://wpmc.co.za/), in association with Smile 90.4 FM (https://smilefm.co.za/).

Mikel thanks MTN Cosmo-Net, Huawei Mobile South Africa and Motorsport Fanatix for their support.
