Julian Fameliaris was crowned the 2023 Mobil 1 V8 Supercars Champion this past weekend after a superb driving performance as the championship’s penultimate round concluded at Zwartkops Raceway.

Fameliaris claimed two victories and a runner-up finish in the three races hosted at the Pretoria circuit and scored enough points to clinch the championship with a round remaining. After claiming the pole position on Saturday morning, the Lube-Net-backed Chevrolet Corvette driver took a lights-to-flag victory in the first two races while finishing second in the third race.

“It’s been a great day for the team. The car was perfect and winning two out of the three races allowed us to score enough points to claim the championship this weekend. We’ve had a phenomenal season and I’m truly grateful to the team and those who have supported me throughout. Winning my first championship is certainly a great feeling and it’s one I’d like to repeat. Great to have competed against the legend Mackie himself which makes this championship extra special. He was also the first to come over and congraulate me and stick the number one on my car. It’s unfortunate for the series that he won’t be competing after this season, but I’m sure what ever he decides to do going forward, it will be successful. We will surely celebrate this championship tonight,” stated Fameliaris.

Fameliaris will return for the final championship round on 17-18 November at Zwartkops Raceway. He and Mobil 1 V8 Supercars want to thank African Group Lubricants for making the 2023 season possible. Please visit them online at https://aglubricants.co.za/
