About one month after the Extreme Festival tour’s national series battled it out at Red Star Raceway, this weekend (15-16 May) will see 2026’s second outing for the regional roster at the same venue, this time around the anti-clockwise circuit layout.
It has indeed been more than two months since the season opener at Zwartkops Raceway, and with first blood drawn in the various championships, the early contenders and challengers will be eager to battle it out around the 13-turn circuit.
Having produced two of the best races in the season opener, the DigitFMS 111 & GT Sports & Saloons field will head up Saturday’s race day action.
Jared Rossouw (OMG Gifts & Gadgets Volkswagen Polo) heads up the Class GTA points table after his two wins, with Marius Truter (Strategic Gearbox & Diff Centre Volkswagen Polo) emerging as the early challenger. Mark du Toit (Trans Africa Racing BMW Z4M), who competed in the GTA Class earlier this year, will now be racing in Class GTB. Here, he will take on the likes of the reigning GT champion, Wouter Roos (Origen Oil Volkswagen Golf) and Wayne Robb (DigitFMS Ford Focus ST), the pair who shared the wins at Zwartkops Raceway.
In the 111 field, it is Class A’s Charl Weyers who heads up the Series after his double-win, but he has yet to enter Round 2. This could see Melanie Spurr (Origen Oil Volkswagen Golf) emerge as the new class leader. Class B’s Piet Potgieter (Volkswagen Golf) is second on the Series points table. Like Weyers, he also has two wins to his name, but will have to fend off Mike O’Sullivan (All Things Motoring Honda Ballade). Henry van Vledder (Stuffall Volkswagen Golf) and Rob Clark (Containers Self Storage Honda Ballade) are tied at the top of Class C after they shared the Round 1 wins. Class D’s Wayne Odendaal (9 Eleven Volkswagen Golf) will look to add to his two wins against the likes of Tihan van Rooyen (Van Rooyen Vision Centre BMW E82 125i), the latter being one of several drivers competing in multiple categories on the weekend.
The BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series is the only series on the programme for which this will be the third championship round, with its season opener taking place as part of the 2026 Passion For Speed event. Comprising two standalone championships, the Series’ NA Cup will lead the way on the weekend.
Thus far, no driver has broken into Class A, which allows the Class B pack to lead this field. Andre van Vuuren (Curvent International BMW E36 M3) heads up the class, with three wins, while Olerato Sekudu (Oupa Moumakwe BMW E36 M3), the other driver to have won a race, is in second place and only six points adrift. Class C’s Ignus du Plessis (Mosco Specialised Contractors BMW E46 M3) has taken every available point in the first two rounds, and the likes of Nicholas Herbst (The Blue Store BMW E90 330i) will need to catch up. Du Plessis also heads up the NA Cup at this point. Reinhardt Miller (Hei-Jo Transport BMW E90 325i) leads Henry Platt (Mosco Specialised Contractors BMW E36/7 Z3) in Class D.
In The Turbo Cup, Anton Pommersheim (Eagle Granite BMW E46 M3 Turbo) heads up Class A and the overall points table after a superb start to his campaign. With Kashen Naicker not entered for Round 3, Nishal Singh (Autonische BMW F80 M3 Turbo) will look to make up a place. Renier Smith (Fast Development BMW E26 M3 Turbo) will be the driver to watch for in Class B. Anand Naidu (SA Autotech BMW F80 M3 Turbo) and Bennie Luyt (BMW E46 M3 Turbo) will look to continue their battle at the front of Class C. Craig Herbst (The Blue Store BMW E92 335i) heads up Alan Hilligenn (BMW E46 328i Turbo) in Class D.
The battle for the top spot in the SuperHatch series will be a wide-open affair, with Karel Stols, who won both races in the season opener, not entered for Round 2. The likes of Ish Baloyi (Honda Civic) and Joshua du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Honda Civic) will look to take his Class A lead.
In Class T1, Arthur Thorne (Volkswagen) will look to add to his two wins against Hendrik Venter (4Js Auto Opel Corsa). Class T2 leader, Keithin Meintjies, has also not entered after his two wins earlier this year, which will open the door for Leon Bredenkamp (Honda Civic).
Stols currently also leads the Series from Thorne and Meintjies.
The ATE VW Challenge will be another fierce contest to watch. In Class A, Josh Moore (Volkswagen Polo) leads the way from Anthony Lessing. The latter, however, have not entered for Round 2. Moore’s bid to extend his run of perfect scores will see him compete against the likes of Francois Aldrich (Volkswagen Polo). Moore also holds the top spot on the Series’ points table.
Keegan Nathan (Nathan’s Motorsport Volkswagen Polo) heads up Class B from Chris Davison (Generator Service Inclusive Volkswagen Polo) and Sebastian Bouilliart (Applied Heat Volkswagen Polo).
Class C’s Bryce Pillay (Techtisa Volkswagen Polo) has a one-point lead over Stuart Konig (Northen Bolt & Tool Volkswagen Polo) in Class C, with Dimitri Zapheriou in third place.
Gert van der Berg (DOE Quality Parts Rhema 2) tops the DOE Formula Vee Partnered With CIM Lubricants points table. He has a slender, three-point lead over Brandon Hills (Mangaza Racing -First 4 Men Rhema 2), with Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Formula Vee) another three points back in third. The only predictable thing in this category is that there will be extremely close racing, and the points table could look completely different by the time the drivers leave Red Star.
The Dunlop V8 Supercars races will see two fierce battles. Thomas Reib (Café 9 Automotive Chevrolet Corvette) had a perfect weekend in the season opener to hold the early lead over Sam Dahl (ArcProTech Ford Falcon) and Larry Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants Holden Monaro)
Spectator tickets for Saturday can be purchased at the Red Star Raceway entrance gate for R150 per person, with children under 12 entering free of charge. All races will be broadcast live on the Extreme Festival website.
