It took three long years for Gary Stockenstroom to get DRIFTCity back up and running. Having weathered the drama of a global pandemic and an incredibly wild Cape Town storm, nothing would stop the 2023 event from running. Gary would not let a few clouds scare him off, so they were going to send it regardless this year.
So what happened? The event kicked off, the rubber burned, the tires squealed, and the rain came down. Not enough to stop play, the crew continued to drift. The spectators weren’t bothered by the drizzle either. They wanted to see a winner, and that person was Kyle Van Dyk.
