The cream of the motorsport fraternity turned out on Sunday 10 December for the 2023 Motorsport South Africa (MSA) National Awards.

In addition to the many awards for outstanding achievement and performance, MSA was proud to award Special and Golden Helmet Awards to worthy recipients. These awards recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to motorsport in South Africa, and motorsport legends who have paved the way for future generations, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.
Seasoned South African-born motorsport journalist Dieter Rencken, the only permanently accredited journalist from Africa, who has reported on almost 400 GPs, was one of the worthy Golden Helmet Award winners. MSA awarded this Golden Helmet in 2022, for his journalism and associated activities. However, as Dieter was unable to attend the 2022 and 2023 Johannesburg functions due to overseas commitments, MSA Chairman Anton Roux handed him his certificate in Baku during the FIA AGA this month.

“I’m most honoured to receive this Golden Helmet Award from Motorsport South Africa, which this week won the FIA President’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award for their work at Daniel Pienaar Technical High School. This shows that our racing community can hold their heads high in any international motorsport environment,” comments Dieter who earlier this year joined the FIA in a senior Formula 1 capacity.
