Luhan De Wet heads to the Killarney Kart Circuit this weekend, leading the national Bambino championship and hoping to extend that lead as Round 3 of the MSA South African Rotax MAX Challenge Championship resumes.

De Wet has been the inform driver this season and will arrive in Cape Town later this week, having taken victory in five of the six heats, with second-placed Adriaan Steyn the only other driver to have claimed a win. De Wet, a rookie competitor, did not participate in the championship’s Cape Town leg in 2022 but is scheduled to make his circuit debut this weekend. He recently visited the circuit to practice before the national event and returned home feeling confident that he would perform well.

“It is a crucial round of the championship for me, with less than 10 points separating myself and Adriaan (Steyn). Whenever we are on track together, we tend to have a close battle where we bring out the best in each other. We hope to resume this again this weekend. It’s also my first competitive outing to the circuit, so I’ll push the limits early to find the grip edge around a twisty circuit. Thank you to De Wet Automotive Performance Service & Repairs, Alunite Pretoria and Duratec Batteries Centurion for the support.

Practice is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with a late Friday afternoon qualifying session commencing ahead of Saturday’s three race heats. A live stream will be available on Saturday on the Rotax South Africa YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@sarotaxmaxchallenge3045).
