Mackie Adlem’s chances of clinching a seventh straight Mobil 1 V8 Supercars GT championship in 2023 hinge heavily on his performance in Round 4, set to take place this coming weekend at Aldo Scribante Racetrack, Gqeberha.

After the recent Phakisa round, Adlem is now only four points behind Thomas Reib in second place. However, he still trails Julian Fameliaris, the championship leader, by 47 points. The upcoming race in Gqeberha is important since drivers will score double the usual points, which could impact the championship standings significantly.

The Eastern Cape circuit was last part of the series calendar in 2019. Adlem raced there in 2022 as part of the South African Endurance Series, which could give Adlem an edge over his competitors.

“I really enjoy the Scribante circuit. It has been a favourite of mine since the first time I raced there. I have had lots of success there, most recently in the Endurance Series, where we won in a Cobra. Back in 2019, I finished first overall with two runner-up finishes behind Larry Wilford and Franco (Di Matteo). If there is a weekend that you want to excel in, it’s the away race with double points on offer. We will be giving it our all, bit in the end, it isn’t down to us, but to the will of our Heavenly Father.”

Qualifying will precede Saturday’s two races consisting of 12 laps each, scheduled to start at 11:00 and 15:00, respectively. While tickets will be sold at the circuit’s entrance, the entire race day will be live-streamed on the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube channel.
