Charl Visser has one hand on CompCare Polo Cup title

Gauteng race fans have an epic day of CompCare Polo Cup racing to look forward to when South Africa’s most exciting racing series descends on Zwartkops Raceway’s Extreme Festival to crown a new champion at those Pretoria races on Saturday 14 October.

Six times a race winner so far in 2023, Cape Town’s championship leader Charl Michael Visser has a 33-point championship lead aboard his Tyre Zone Team Red Polo Cup. So, with just 44 points left on the table all he needs to do is finish less than ten points adrift of his only championship rival, Mbombela driver Dawie van der Merwe’s Nathan’s Polo to wrap it up in Saturday’s first heat. Three times a winner this year, van der Merwe won two of those races last time out, so rest assured that he will be giving it his all to stay in the championship chase to the bitter end.

Home hero and top rookie Anthony Pretorius has won two races so far this season in his OMP Bucket List Polo to sit third in the championship chase, and with fourth man, triple winner Giordano Lupini sitting this one out, the fight for third will be between Zwartkops expert Pretorius, Capetonian Nathan Victor, Jozi lad Farhaan Basha’s QVWI car. They must however keep an eye in their championship mirrors for Richards Bay lad Jason Loosemore in his Security Fencing & Alarms Team Red entry, and local veteran Dean Venter’s MTown VDN Polo.

Others to keep an eye on include Jozi young gun Ethan Coetzee’s JRT Racing machine, Squadra Corse lad Reaobaka Komane and Bryce Pillay’s Techtisa Polo. Behind them Mo Karodia’s Fast 5 car, rookie racing lass Tyler Robinson AF Fans car and her new Team Red teammate, Gqeberha lad Jeandre Marais are involved in their own private championship battle, ahead of Raaziegh Harris’ Cooltouch car, and Upward Spiral Team Red rookie Roshaan Goodman.

CompCare Polo Cup qualifying happens late Friday afternoon before the sunset Superpole, with two races to follow on Saturday 12 September’s Extreme Festival Finals program to crown the 2023 champion. Sounds like another very good reason to see you at Zwartkops!
