Dominant Dolinschek the Investchem Formula 1600 man to beat

Having won six of the eight Investchem Formula 1600 races so far this season, and the last four of them on the trot, it is all for Troy Dolinschek’s championship rivals to do as the season commences its second half at the East London Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday 22 July.

Perhaps the highlight of the Investchem Formula 1600 season, such is the pace and progress of the tiny 1600 cc cars, that they are now quicker around the classic Border racetrack than Formula 1 superstars Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham or Stirling Moss ever lapped it, back in the days of the Grand Prix there in the early 1960s. The Circuit remains unchanged since then too.

Getting back to Investchem Formula 1600 there this weekend, Cape Town youngster Dolinschek is clearly the lad to beat in his Sujean Property Investments Mygale. Never mind, his closest rival is another Capetonian, Jason Coetzee’s Mint Wrapworks version. All Investchem Formula 1600 racers drive 1600cc Ford-powered wings and slicks chassis.

Coetzee leads an ultra-close battle for the championship second ahead of Gerard Geldenhuys, who has bounced back over recent races in his Abacus Divisions car to now lead veteran Nicholas van Weely’s Magnificent Paints & Hardware machine. The three of them are separated by all of four championship points.

Behind them, Investchem lad Siyabonga Mankonkwana sits a lonely championship fifth ahead of a close four car spat between Antwan Geldenhuys’ second Abacus Divisions car, top rookie KC Ensor-Smith’s Vitro Frameless Glass entry, Alex Vos’ Investchem DV Building Supplies Mygale and stalwart pilot, Andrew Schofield’s Fly Safair Mygale. Shrien Naidoo’s Production X entry, Karabo Malemela’s KMFT Morita car and AMD lad Storm are involved in their own championship tussle.

The wingless and street tyre clad traditional Formula Ford Kents return alongside Investchem Formula 1600 at East London. Investchem trio, Ian Schofield, and Rick Morris’ Mygales and Allen Meyer‘s Van Diemen will take on Duncan Vos DV Building Supplies Swift, Graham Hepburn’s Qualipak Van Diemen, and Ronald van Weely in his Magnificent Paints & Hardware Van Diemen.

Either way, the quick and nimble wings and slicks Investchem Formula 1600s will be at their absolute finest around the spiritual home of South African single seater racing. Don’t miss the action at the dauntingly quick, yet technically challenging East London Grand Prix Circuit’s 22 July Extreme Festival!
