Nestled in the heart of the Free State, the Bloemfontein Off Road Club (BORC) has been a cornerstone of the local motorsport community for over four decades. Established in 1982, BORC was founded out of a simple need: to give dirt bike riders in Bloemfontein a place to call home. From those modest beginnings, the club has grown into one of South Africa’s most respected off-road and motocross institutions.

What sets BORC apart is not just its facilities, but its unwavering sense of community and passion for the sport. Riders and families alike are drawn to the club for its camaraderie, shared values, and the unmistakable red soil that has become a symbol of racing in Bloemfontein. The “gees” among members runs deep, and whether it’s a local club race or a national event, that spirit is always on display.

Today, BORC operates out of the Tempe Motocross Track, a venue that hosts a full calendar of events including MSA club races and MSA National Motocross rounds. Recognised time and again for delivering high-quality racing experiences, the club has been voted as the host of the best motocross events in South Africa on several occasions.

With a current membership of around 80 riders, BORC is not just a racing club, it’s a training ground for Champions. Through development programmes like MSA Mini-X and the guidance of former South African MX Champions, the club is actively investing in the future of the sport. Many promising riders have come through the BORC ranks, including Johan Vogelesang, Eben van Rooyen, Ethan Style, Tyson Engelbrecht, Meiring Vermeulen, and Wian Du Plooy. These names reflect a tradition of excellence that continues to inspire the next generation of competitors.

The club also prides itself on its inclusive and welcoming environment. New members can easily join via the website www.borc.co.za, where they will find a place that values both competitive spirit and a love for off-road riding. The coaching offered to younger riders by former South African MX Champions, is hands-on and personal, with these experienced professionals taking time to develop talent from an early age.

Looking ahead, BORC remains committed to growing its footprint in South African motorsport. Planned upgrades include a new electronic gate system and a dedicated shed for maintenance equipment, reflecting the club’s proactive approach to maintaining and improving its facilities. These enhancements are part of a broader vision to ensure that BORC remains a top-tier destination for both riders and fans of the sport.

Importantly, BORC isn’t just focused on competition. It’s about family, mentorship, and creating opportunities for riders at every level. By regularly hosting national events and nurturing young talent, the club plays a vital role in growing motorsport across the country.
