Aqil’s clean sweep seals ’26 Investchem MSA4 title
Aqil Alibhai dominated the Investchem MSA4 season finale at Zwartkops on Saturday, storming off pole position to both race wins to seal the 2026 championship
Aqil Alibhai dominated the Investchem MSA4 season finale at Zwartkops on Saturday, storming off pole position to both race wins to seal the 2026 championship. Johannesburg racer and former British Formula 4 winner Alibhai led the points arriving in Pretoria, backed it up with a champion’s performance to take the title in style.
Aqil set a 1 minute 02.825 lap in Saturday qualifying, to pip title rival Mikel Bezuidenhout’s Universal Mygale to pole by a tenth of a second. Comeback kid and 2023 Investchem Formula 1600 champion Troy Dolinschek lined up third for Corsa Dei Gemelli ahead of Chase Haskins’ CloudCTO car, Kent Swartz’s Motorsport Supplies entry, and fast lady Anastasia Gerasis.
Guido Bidoli’s Trans African car lined up seventh ahead of Renzo Ribeiro’s Metal Used Spares entry, Aadam Kajee for 76 Legacy WOrr, and Shrien Naidoo’s Production X car, with Karabo Malemela in his KMFT Morita machine and William Marshall’s WOrr Motorsport entry next.
Nicholas van Weely topped Formula Kent qualifying in his Magnificent Paints Van Diemen from Andrew Horne’s Xena Royale, Andrew Hammond, Alex Vos in his Ecurie Zoo Swift, and veteran Allen Meyer.
Race 1 was straightforward for Aqil Alibhai, who pulled clear from pole to beat Mikel Bezuidenhout to the win by some five seconds. Troy Dolinschek finished third ahead of Guido Bidoli, Chase Haskins, Karabo Malemela, Kent Swartz, Shrien Naidoo, Aadam Kajee, and Renzo Ribeiro. Anastasia Gerasis and William Marshall completed the MSA4 finishers as Nicholas van Weely took the Kent win over Andrew Horne and Alex Vos.
Race 2 delivered high title drama on lap five. Leading the way, defensive Aqil Alibhai and a charging Mikel Bezuidenhout made contact. The brush broke Alibhai’s front wing against Bezuidenhout’s sidepod, leaving Bezuidenhout out of the race and championship fight. It was deemed a 50/50 racing incident, leaving Alibhai to nurse his battle-scarred car home to another race win and the 2026 Investchem MSA4 title.
A charging Guido Bidoli came to within two-tenths of a second of stealing the win, with Chase Haskins scoring an MSA4 career-best third from Kent Swartz, Anastasia Gerasis, Shrien Naidoo, Aadam Kajee, Wianko Fourie, William Marshall, and Karabo Malemela. Nicholas van Weely swept Formula Kent from Andrew Horne and Alex Vos.
His double victory confirms Aqil Alibhai as the 2026 Investchem MSA4 Champion from Bezuidenhout, who will be keen to turn his double runner-up slots into an overall title once the action resumes in 2027.
