Top of the Hill ready to thrill fans this weekend
Building on the huge success of its first two years, Zwartkops’ third Top of the Hill Challenge has evolved into a thrilling two-day affair at the Pretoria Raceway this 25 and 26 July weekend. An even grander, more fun-filled challenge, the two kilometre climb starts at turn 4 and runs in the reverse direction to the regular track up to Turn 5.
Split into Classic Saturday and Contemporary racing Sunday this year, 75 Top of the Hill competitors are already signed up. So Gauteng fans are guaranteed an extreme show as the country’s most powerful cars of every shape and size race flat out up the hill and against the clock.
Starting with Saturday’s Classic celebration of South African race history, entries include unique Made in South African specials like the GSM Dart, GRP Protea, a Dovey 626, the Lolette V8, a Thompson Special and a Marauder. They tackle international rivals from Porsches and Cobras to MGs, an Austin A35, even a Metropolitan and much more. They have their work cut out by older Nissan GT-Rs, sportscars and single seaters.
Sunday’s attention shifts to the contemporary as modern street and sportscars, and single seaters vie to become King of the Hill. Ultimate Porsches and Ferraris compete with latest Nissan GT-Rs, Shelby Super Snakes, Volkswagen Golf GTIs, Alfa Romeos and Audis, hillclimb specials and single seaters for ultimate Zwartkops Top of the Hill glory.
More than just a feast of power and speed, the Zwartkops’ Top of the Hill offers off track attractions and then some. From drifting and MasterDrive demos to passenger rides on track and all weekend at the skidpan, to racing sims, interactive competitions, a Honda and racing displays, merch stores, and the rest.
A family day out, Top of the Hill caters for the kids too. Face painting and balloon artists, stilt walkers, jumping castles, a jungle gym and push bikes to keep them happy while the racing goes on. Add catering, food stalls and more in and around Zwartkops Raceway’s pit complex, which as always, remains open to the public.
Classic Saturday starts with 08h00 practice before four qualifying runs between 11h30 and 14h30, the 15h45 Class Finals and the Classic Conqueror at 16h00. Sunday’s Contemporary action follows a similar program until the 15h00 Class Finals and the Road, Modified and Single Seater and Sportscar Top of the Hill Shootouts from 16h00.
Your Top of the Hill weekend pass is R200 per adult, while daily entry is R120 with kids under 12 entering for free on both days. See you at Zwartkops!
