This past weekend’s (26-27 June) national  Extreme Festival lived up to its reputation of delivering close, action-packed racing at the Aldo Scribante Raceway.

The programme started with the Investchem MSA4 & Formula Ford Kent fields sharing the circuit, which also saw the day’s first major incident. This came after John-Henri Vaughan retired his Formula Ford Kent in a precarious position, necessitating the deployment of the safety car. Chase Haskins (Kokoro Racing Academy) was caught off guard and made contact with fellow Investchem MSA4 competitor Wianko Fourie, who had already slowed down. With all stricken cars cleared, Aqil Alibhai (Kokoro Racing Academy) beat Renzo Ribeiro (Metal Used Spares) and Mikel Bezuidenhout (Huawei) in the two-lap sprint to the line in the Investchem MSA4 series. Race 2 saw Bezuidenhout beat Alibhai and Ribeiro.

In the Formula Ford Kent series, Ian Schofield (Investchem) made it two wins for the day. Rick Morris (Investchem) took the runner-up spot from Allen Meyer (Investchem) in Race 1. Vaughan, back on the grid for Race 2, this time took the second spot, while both Meyer and Morris retired.

Thus far, a notable absentee in the 2026 SunBet ZX10R Masters Cup has been the defending two-time champion, Clint Seller (King Price Xtreme). This was due to an ongoing issue with a pinched nerve, which saw the multiple South African champion withdraw twice from the all-Kawasaki ZX10 series this year, while he did not enter Round 2 at all.

However, the champion returned this weekend and showed he has no form issues, winning two dominant races. In Race 1, Damion Purificati (Crystal Lubricants) finished second on both occasions, while Keith Agliotti (TNB Global) and Trevor Westman (Team Wayward) traded the final podium spot.

This saw Seller also take both Class A wins, with Agliotti and Westman swapping the runner-up spots. Purificati, Henk Kruger (Zeemans Hooligans) and Byron Rothquel (Pool Warehouse) headed up the Class B field in both races. James Barson (Proproof Waterproofing) took both Class C wins, with Johan le Roux (Avidan) and Reginal Seale (HXCS) trading the runner-up spots.

There was also no lack of action in the Astron Energy Polo Cup. Pole Starter, Charl Smalberger (Sabertek), made a bad start in the first race of the all-Volkswagen Polo GTI Series, but was saved by the red flag, which was deployed shortly after, following two separate incidents through the first two corners. The first of these saw contact between Pierluigi Muzzulini (FSS International) and Berlin Robertson (Fantech), while Jayden Goosen (AA) crashed into the outside barrier a few meters later. Smalberger made no mistakes from the restart to beat Hannes Scheepers (Dainfern Dental Studio) and Mauro Da Luz (Retail Insight). Scheepers won Race 2 from Christopher Tait (Volkswagen Rookie Cup) and Smalberger.

In the Masters Class, Derick Smalberger (Sabertek) made it a double win for the family in Race 1, holding off John Kruger (Team Red) and Wayne Masters (Performance Masters). The defending champion, Masters, was back to his winning ways in Race 2, beating Kruger and Smalberger.

Charl Arangies (Stradale Motorsport Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 EVO) took a hat trick of Extreme SuperCars Driven By Dunlop wins. This also saw him take all the GT3 Class wins. Race 1 saw Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO) beat Damian Hammond (Liqui Moly Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3) to second place in the race and GT3 Class, with the position reversed for the latter two races.

Paul Hill (Kalex Aston Martin) won Class A in Race 1 outright from Karah Hill (Promigen Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO). In Race 2, Karah beat her father, Paul, to the flag, but was handed a 15-second penalty for a start infringement. Race 3 saw Karah take the win. Debutant Viven Howell (Stradale Motorsport Porsche) won Class B in all three races.

Sabastian Venkov (23degrees.co.za) won both the all-Volkswagen Polo Vivo GT Volkswagen Rookie Cup races. Luke Hill (Steelform) and Sebastian Dias (PMD Transport) traded the runner-up spots.

In the South African Touring Cars championship, Robert Wolk (Chemical Logistics Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI) took his first win of the season from Keegan Campos (Veloce Automobili BMW 128ti) and Julian van der Watt (We Buy Cars Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI) in Race 1. For the second consecutive event, the second race saw a maiden winner. This time, it was Jason Coetzee (Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota Corolla) who beat the defending champion, Michael van Rooyen, in the sister car, with KC Ensor-Smith (African Heating Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI) third. However, celebrations for the Toyota Gazoor Racing one-two are being kept on ice at present, with Van Rooyen still awaiting the outcome of the enquiry into the incident which saw Campos sidelined from the front-end battle.

The SATC SupaCup saw the returning champion, Tate Bishop (ANGRi Racing), beat Judd Berthold (Union Power Supplies) in Race 1 of the all-Volkswagen Polo SupaCup series. Rory Atikinson (Volkswagen Motorsport) was the third driver to cross the line. Race 2 saw Jason Loosemore (Nathan’s Motorsport) beat Bishop and Atkinson. All results in the series, however, remain provisional pending further investigations.

Kobus Reyneke and Connor Weston traded the GR 86 Class wins in the GR Cup, with Reagile Mailula and Kian Fusell completing the respective podiums.

The defending champion, Nabil Abdool, remains unbeaten in the Media Challenge, while Paul de Vos and Craig Nicholson traded the other two podium spots.

In the Dealership challenge, Wener Venter and Andries de Villiers won Race 1 and 2, respectively. Theo Brits and Dylan Jones completed the respective podiums.

The Extreme Festival returns to the Aldo Scribante Raceway on 7-8 August, this time with the regional roster’s coastal event for 2026. The following weekend (12-15 August), the national roster will again be in action at the East London Grand Prix Circuit.
