All eyes on Scribante as the Touring Cars come to town

It may be one of the shortest and likely coolest Saturdays of the year, but if the 2026 South African Touring Cars action is anything to go by so far, Gqeberha race fans can look forward to some action to truly warm the cockles of their winter hearts on Saturday 27 June. The Touring Cars and SupaCup are set to continue another epic battle into Aldo Scribante’s midseason round of the National Extreme Festival races.

With three race wins from the six races run so far in 2026, Capetonian Julian van der Watt’s We Buy Cars Investchem WCT Volkswagen Golf GTI continues to lead the championship chase to Nelson Mandela Bay. Veteran Julian doesn’t have much wiggle room, however, as rookie teammate KC Ensor-Smith from Johannesburg sits far too close for championship comfort in his African Heating Investchem WCT Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Behind them. There’s a huge spat going down for that championship third, with Toyota Gazoo Racing Corolla teammates, another hot young rookie, Cape lad Jason Coetzee and the highly experienced reigning champion Michael van Rooyen out of Rustenburg not just tied on points, but also just another point clear of first time winner last time out, Franschhoek pilot Andrew Schofield’s FlySafair Chemical Logistics BMW 128ti.

But there’s another twist. Both Jo’burg men, Keegan Campos’ Veloce Campos Chemical Logistics FAST BMW 128ti and former triple champion Robert Wolk’s Chemical Logistics WCT Volkswagen Golf GTI are playing catch-up after missing the opening round. So to predict the winners out of this mob is pretty well impossible. May the best man win!

Then there’s a case for revenge in the all-Volkswagen SupaPolo SATC SupaCup. Richards Bay sophomore Jason Loosemore’s Nathans SupaPolo raced back into the championship lead last time out, where he snatched the advantage from rookie pretender and Astron Energy Polo Cup champion, Jozi driver Rory Atkinson’s Volkswagen Motorsport entry.

Neither of them has anywhere to hide either, with the likes of two more rapid rookies, Judd Bertholdt’s Union Power Energy machine and AF Fans lass Tyler Robinson breathing down their necks. Add fellow Gauteng racers Nicholas Vostanis and Niko Zafiris, Cape driver David Franco, brothers Rick and Master driver Paulo Loureiro and his rival Jared Rossouw, and Saturday’s SupaCup promises huge action too.

A highlight of the spectacular National Extreme Festival action, the South African Touring Cars and SupaCup promises seismic action in Pretoria on Saturday. Light blue touch paper, step back five paces and see you at Aldo Scribante!
