Advantage Atkinson as Rory leads SupaCup chase
Volkswagen Motorsport’s Rory Atkinson leads the SATC SupaCup way to Zwartkops Raceway’s third round National Extreme Festival on Saturday 23 May. Teammate Christopher Tait meanwhile plans to keep on improving in Saturday’s 30th Anniversary Astron Energy Polo Cup races.
“Volkswagen Motorsport heads to our Gauteng home ground on the front foot,” Mike Rowe, Volkswagen Head of Motorsport explains. “Our reigning Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Rory Atkinson now leads the SATC SupaCup following a splendid start to his season in our factory SupaPolo. Volkswagen Rookie Cup champion Christopher Tait is navigating his 30th Anniversary Astron Energy Polo Cup learning curve very well as he too looks forward to racing on home ground on Saturday.”
“I’ve enjoyed a most positive start to my first SATC SupaCup season,” Volkswagen SupaPolo rookie Rory Atkinson admits. “We had to fight for second in the opening round, but the second meeting of the season certainly came to us and I’m delighted to have scored a double win to see us into an eight point championship advantage. The plan is to consolidate that advantage at my home track this weekend. Of course, I am not alone in this and a thank the team in advance for an incredible car and wonderful support once again this weekend.”
Christopher Tait plans to maximise his home advantage to continue the progress he made in the second round. “I was far more comfortable and enjoyed better results at Red Star, but we now go to a track I know even better,” Christopher points out. “The plan is to unlock enough pace to chase for a slot in Superpole, which I came close to last time, and turn that into an even better result this weekend. We also need to remain objective considering this is also most of my rivals’ home ground, but I have a great team behind me, so it’s onward and upward to Pretoria!”
“Not only is it a great little racetrack that delivers incredible racing every time, but Zwartkops is Volkswagen Motorsport’s Gauteng home track and a traditional happy hunting ground for the team,” Mike concludes. “All the best to the entire team and both our factory drivers this weekend!”
