South Africa’s next generation of motorcycle racing talent will once again take to the circuit when Round 3 of the MSA Short Circuit GP Series heads to Formula K Kart Circuit on 30 May 2026.

Among the young riders preparing for the event is 12 year old Krugersdorp competitor Amohelang Phiri, who continues to make steady progress.

Having grown up around motorsport through his older brother Oratilwe, Amohelang’s journey into racing started naturally at a young age. Today, he competes in the Short Circuit 150 Cup class aboard a Honda CBR150 while also gaining experience in long circuit racing on a Kawasaki Ninja 400.

One of his standout moments so far came recently at Zwartkops Raceway, where he claimed his first ever Sub 500 class victory, a result that continues to motivate the young rider as he builds his racing career.

Phiri says Formula K remains one of his favourite venues due to the amount of time spent practising at the circuit, something that could prove valuable heading into Round 3.

Away from the racetrack, Amohelang enjoys esports and credits his family, friends and supporters for helping him continue competing in what he describes as an expensive and demanding sport.

The MSA Short Circuit GP Series continues to provide an important platform for young riders across South Africa to gain experience and showcase their talent in a competitive environment, with another strong field expected for the upcoming round at Formula K.
