Luke the Rookie to beat at Volkswagen’s home track

The 2026 Volkswagen Rookie Cup moves away from its regular home National Extreme Festival roadshow to race at the South African Endurance Series Five Hours of Aldo Scribante at Volkswagen’s home track on Saturday 11 April. With a runaway championship lead after his dominant showing at Killarney first time out in March, Luke Hill has a clear target on his back in Gqeberha next weekend.

While the records may show Hill and his Steelform Polo Vivo to have run unbeaten last time out, the raw facts are however a little different. Series freshman Sebastian Venkov will be looking for a clean weekend to make up after a jump start penalty turned his dream debut into a weekend to forget last time out. A young veteran of Historic and INEX Legends Racing, Venkov certainly is one to watch.

Former karter, St Francis Bay driver Jack Moore is an Aldo Scribante home favourite in his Puma Fleet Dynamics car. He and PMD Transport lad Sebastian Dias from Gauteng both ran Hill close last time out. Keyaan Dwomoh is another former karter to look out for in his Adhive Group Vivo, as is Anwill April, while Max Corbett will be out to develop on his Century Racing Rally Raid heritage.

“If the opening round of the Volkswagen Rookie Cup was anything to go by, Eastern Province race fans are in for a bonus at the South African Endurance Series Five Hours of Aldo Scribante next weekend,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe said. “One could literally throw a blanket over the Rookie Cup pack for most of the Killarney weekend last time out. We expect more of the same at Aldo Scribante next Saturday.”

A Volkswagen Motorsport initiative is open to drivers between 14 and 16 holding a valid MSA licence, the Rookie Cup Academy transitions incumbents from karting or similar to the main circuit. Volkswagen Motorsport factory drivers and crew train recruits in every racing facet from racecraft and technique through physical and mental preparation, teamwork and data analysis to television, and the media. The 2026 Rookie champion will have the choice of a drive in either the Astron Energy Polo Cup, or Volkswagen-powered MSA4 in 2027.
