National Extreme Festival opens in Cape Town Saturday

South Africa’s National Championship Extreme Festival is locked, loaded and ready to thrill Cape Town at Killarney’s season opener on Saturday 14 March. Featuring the Dunlop Extreme Supercars, South African Touring Cars, and SupaCup, 30th birthday Astron Energy Polo Cup, Investchem MSA4 single seaters, SunBet ZX10 Masters motorcycles and Volkswagen Rookie and Gazoo Racing Cups, it promises a full day of extreme entertainment on and off the racetrack.

The Dunlop Extreme Supercars top the Killarney bill, where local lad Charl Michael Visser’s Porsche GT3 hopes to give upcountry GT3 rivals, champion Jonathan du Toit‘s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO and Charl Arangies’ Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO more than just something to think about. Class A sees Audi R8 LMS Evo duo Gianni Giannoccaro and Marius Jackson dicing Ricardo Giannoccaro in a Lamborghini Huracan. And Jimmy Giannoccaro’s Nismo GT-R takes on Roy Obery’s Porsche GT3 Cup and Anthony Blunden in Lamborghini Huracan in Class B.

South African Touring Cars is set to be a clash of the titans with multiple champion Robert Wolk back to take on reigning champion Michael van Rooyen. Van Rooyen is part of a two car Toyota Corolla team alongside GR Rookie Cup champion, local lad Jason Coetzee. Wolk is one of a strong three-car Volkswagen Golf GTI team veteran Killarney home hero, Julian van der Watt and 2025 Investchem MSA4 champion KC Ensor-Smith, while Andrew Schofield races a BMW 128 ti with a similar second car to be confirmed.

The all-Volkswagen SupaPolo SATC SupaCup is however wide open. Jason Loosemore is the only previous race winner, but he’ll have to work for it against Nicholas Vostanis, Cape home hero David Franco, Rick and Paulo Loureiro, Niko Zafiris, and Jared Rossouw. SupaCup rookies are likely to have a major say too, with Polo Cup champion Rory Atkinson, Tyler Robinson and Judd Bertholdt all making a step up and keen to make a great impression.

Speaking of the Astron Energy Polo Cup, 2026 is a huge season as it’s the 30th year of the dynamic young drivers’ class. Like SupaCup, the Polos are wide open, but there are favourites. Hannes Scheepers, Charl Smalberger and Jayden Goosen among them. Also watch for Shiren Rajpaul, Pierluigi Muzzulini and Milan Emslie, and rookies Chris Tait, Josh Moore, racing lass Berlin Robinson, and Cyril Jacobs Jr. Wayne Masters is out to make it an Astron Polo Masters hat trick. But will Derick Smalberger, John Kruger, Mike Barbaglia, Elio Muzzulini and Richard van Heerde let him?

The wings and slicks Investchem MSA4 single seaters are poised for a second, epic season with Mikel Bezuidenhout, Karabo Malemela and Shrien Naidoo looking like the lads to beat. They will however have their work cut out by Renzo Ribiero, Liam Polome, Kent Swartz and racing lasses Anastasia Gerasis, Simphiwe Mohlahlo, and exciting rookie Gianna Pascoal. All however have a dark horse to deal with in South African international Aqil Alibhai returning on a mission to win.

There’s also two wheeler action in the SunBet ZX10 Masters, but can anyone stop the indomitable Clinton Seller in 2026? Rest assured Hein McMahon, Pieter de Vos, Keith Agliotti, Jayson Lamb, James Barson, Damion Purificati and Byron Rothquel will be among those trying. The Volkswagen Rookie Cup will see sophomores, Jack Moore and Luke Hill taking on rookies Seb Dias, Anwill April, Sebastian Venkov, Max Corbett, and Keyaan Dwomoh. The Toyota Gazoo Racing Cup will confirm who’s racing there soon.

The season opening National Extreme Festival is however braced and ready to entertain Cape Town at the season opener on Saturday 14 March. With a full day of entertainment on and off track, tickets are available via Webtickets online or from Pick ’n Pay at R120 per adult and R40 for under-16s. Or pay at the gate on raceday at R150 for adults and R50 for under-16s with under-12s free. Camping is allowed at the circuit and there’s also an exclusive Premium Motorsport Experience package available.

See you at Killarney!
