MSA BEYOND THE TRACK – COMPETITORS UNCOVERED
At just 18 years old, James Moore from Harrismith in the Free State is already carving out a name for himself on the toughest stages of international hard enduro. Calm, persistent, and fast are the three words James uses to describe his racing style, and those qualities have already carried him to podiums and respect across Europe.
James’s journey began at the age of two, when his father introduced him to an Oset trials bike. Although his dad offered valuable guidance, James quickly developed his own hunger to compete and succeed. “At first my dad inspired me, but that shifted to a desire from myself to race and win,” he explains.
Today, he competes in the Hard Enduro World Championship and the Italian Extreme Series, taking on some of the sport’s most grueling events. His proudest achievement to date came at Abestone 2025, where he finished 4th overall and 1st in juniors, a breakthrough moment for both him and his team.
Away from the racetrack, James stays grounded. He enjoys cycling, good food, and spending time with his family and friends. His faith is central to his approach. “I want to be remembered as a humble and fun person who glorified God through my racing,” he says.
James also embraces the challenges of international racing, from the intense physical demands to the time away from home. Yet he thrives on the bigger stage. “It feels great to represent South Africa. There are more fans, a more competitive atmosphere, and it is amazing to know my country is behind me.”
To young South Africans dreaming of motorsport, James offers a simple but powerful piece of advice: “Outwork your self-doubt.”
