Beautiful weather and spectacular scenery is normal for September in the Western Cape and after having missed out on the MSA4 series debut in March much was expected of the new single seater championship on their first visit.

It could spark a serious debate but not “only those living here will know” why Killarney must rate as one of the most beautiful racetracks in the world settled below Table Mountain – and the summer wind is not a burden, it clears the air to leave a stunning scenario.

The cost of travelling has most certainly become a reality scare in motorsport and it makes Killarney International Raceway an almost exclusive venue. East London, Aldo Scribante and Killarney shares the distinction that the layout of the circuits have remained almost unchanged and as such have seen generations race on the “same” circuits.

And most categories now have new names filling the drivers seat. The legendary names remain the goals for the newcomers, not only in lap times but in character. They can never be replaced or imitated but new identities and must now become the household names of the present and future.

Extreme SuperCars driven by Dunlop 3×10 Laps
A disappointing entry when compared to previous meetings and the absence of the General is still a topic of discussion amongst local enthusiasts. Practice times placed the podium positions out of reach of anyone else as Jonathan du Toit, Charl Arangies and Marcel Angel set the pace.

Charl opened his account with a fine Heat 1 victory in the 86n Stradale Motorsport Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO with Jonathan du Toit seemingly content with second place in his 34n Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO. Charl Visser showed that he is fast becoming a factor by running his 33A Charl Engineering Porsche GT3 4.0 home in third spot.

Marcel Angel looked the most likely candidate for third but something went awry on the 4D Autohaus Angel Ferrari 488 GT3 3.9 and he cruised home in fourth. Heat two saw Jonathan du Toit take the fight to Charl Arangies and they were again followed home by Charl Visser with Ricardo Giannoccaro fourth in his 75A G&H transport Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

Jonathan du Toit led for most of the third and final race only to suddenly slow and Charl Arangies cruised through to take the overall victory for the day in his 86n Stradale Motorsport Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO. Ricardo Giannoccaro delighted to finish second in the third race and stepping onto the second spot of the overall podium in his pink Lamborghini. Gianni Giannoccardo is another firm favourite with the local sepctators and his third place in the third heat netted fourth overall for the day in his really cool liveried 15n Bisc Transport Datsun GTR.

Taking a popular third overall for the day was the new SA karting champion Charl Visser in his 33 Charl Engineering Porsche GT3 4.0. Marius Jackson claiming fifth in his 80A MJR Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 and the top six completed by an ecstatic Dr Mike Verrier in his brutal 4D NDT Racing BMW X4M.

Astron Energy Polo Cup 3×8 Laps
Sixteen drivers contested three heats in near perfect weather and without actually winning a heat it was Tyler Robinson who stole the thunder from the boys by claiming first place overall in her 27 AF Fans VW Polo GTi. Judd Bertholdt showed that certainly learnt much during his stint as VW Rookie to place his 127 VW Motors VW Polo GTi second overall and in third spot it was veteran Rory Atkinson in his 2 Industry Petroleum VW Polo GTi. Rory winning the opening heat.

Fourth overall it was Shiren Raijpaul in the 14 Dubcord Service Centre VW Polo GTi and he was followed home by Dhivyen Naidoo in the 98 Production X VW Polo GTi. The top six completed by Bevin Masters in his 9 The GPS Warehouse VW Polo GTi.

Ethan Coetzee won heat two in the 58 Lee Thompson Racing VW Polo GTi and heat three was won by Hannes Scheepers in his 23 Dainfern Dental Studio VW Polo GTi. Hannes was in top form but lady luck turned her back on him and Mohammed Karodia, 25 Lee Thompson Racing, denying them potential good results overall.

VW Rookie Cup 2×8 Laps
Christopher Tait (Sportex) and Josh Moore (Fleet Dynamics Group) started the day as firm favourites to actually seal the VW Rookie Championship but they managed to trip over each other and it was Uzair Khan who benefitted with overall victory in his 78 (Tactical Security Services) VW Polo Vivo GT from Mauro da Lux in the 33 (Retail Insight) VW Polo Vivo GT. Berlin Robinson drove well but was somewhat harshly removed from the lead of heat two to eventually finish third overall in the 18 (AF Fans) VW Polo Vivo GT.

SATC & Supacup 2×10 Laps
Michael van Rooyen had to win in Cape Town and that is exactly what he did in the 16 Gazoo Toyota Corolla with his teammates Sa-aad Variawa and Nathi Msimanga completing the Gazoo Racing domination of the overall podium.

Keegan Campos was on form in his 29 Campos Transport BMW 318Ti only to have the bonnet destroy the windscreen on his car after contact with the Chemical Logistic VW Golf 8 GTi on the back straight. A truly rare incident as Julian van der Watt battled problems with a fuel rail which resulted in a sudden loss of power and then an on board fire as he entered the pits.
Jonathan Mogotsi and Jason Loosemore claimed firt and second in the SATC Supacup category in their VW Motorsport Polo GTi entries with Tate Bishop third in the Angri Racing Polo GTi. But, it was the 94 driver who smiled most as he claimed the 2025 Supacup title at his home circuit.

David Franco fourth in his 69 Graphix Supply World entry , Dean Venter fifth in his 77 Platinum Mile entry and in sixth it was Karah Hill in the 41 Kalex entry.

Sunbet ZX10 Masters 2×10 Laps

Celebrating his return to racing with a dominant performance. David Enticott second on the 78 Ravenol SA entry and in third spot it was Jayson Lamb aboard the 42C Tyremart Kawasaki ZX10R.
Hein McMahan fourth on his 4 K9 Law Enforcement entry, Graeme van Breda fifth overall on the 41B Stefanutti Stocks entry and the top six completed by Keith Agliotti.

Investchem MSA4 & Formula Ford Kent 2×10 Laps
First time visitors to Killarney with a mostly fresh batch of drivers much was expected of this new single seater series. They certainly pass the test of being attractive and well presented and the action on track was as expected, pretty tight.
Mikel Bezuidenhout taking overall victory in the 69 Corsa Dei Gemelli entry foolowed by KC Ensor-Smith in his 68 Investchem entry and in third it was Renzo Riobeiro in his 13 Metal Used Spares entry.

Liam Polome fourth in his 95 Red Dot with Karabo Malemela fifth for the 37 KMFT Morita and in sixth it was Namibian based Adriaan Nel in his Central Cycles entry.

Veterans Rick Morris, Allen Meyer putting Alex Vos to the test in the Kent powered FF category and there was late race drama when Vos experienced a broken driveshaft in Pertamina Fastron which saw Morris launched into orbit. Vos forced to retire whilst Morris still managed to finish the race and claiming top honours in the FF Kent category. Allen Meyer promoted to second in his 57 Investchem Van Diemen.

Gazoo Racing SA Cup 2×8 Laps
With 22 Toyota cars on track this series actually boasted the largest entry on the day. Comprising three individual “championships” as the field was split into GR Yaris, Toyota 86 and GR Corolla categories.

Jason Coetzee dominated the Toyota 86 Cup category in his 77 entry with Kent Swartz the only threat in the 58 entry.
Kyle Kock claimed top honours in the GR Yaris category on home soil with the 88 Car Toyota Yaris but it was Nabil Abdool who collected the title in second spot with his 11 Supersport entry and Phuti Mpyane third in the 50 Times Live Yaris.
Marios de Sousa winning the GR Corolla category in his 27 Motus Toyota Corolla with Devon Scott second in the 35 Driving Academy entry and Werner Venter third in the 222 NMI Toyota Corolla entry.

Summary
Consider that the 12 new MSA4 single seaters are powered by VW, there were 52 – 48.6% Volkswagen (including the 2 Audi and 4 Porsche in Supercars) entries on a day that produced only 107 entries in all categories. Toyota achieved 25 – 23.4%. Just two manufacturers making up 77 – 72% of the entries where 13 of the balance was Kawasaki motorcycles.
